"Pitting women against each other" is when the media turns something into a feud/competition when it isn't one. A huge example of this is Applause vs. Roar.....they were just two Pop stars releasing new singles, yet the media made it into this big competition, "who will win" type of thing. You never see that kind of thing happen with male artists. That's something that people like Taylor have been fighting against, because it is something that is completely unnecessary and made up drama.

That doesn't mean women have to be all butterflies and rainbows with each other all the time. If a person does something bad to another person, they completely have the right to be upset with them. Regardless of gender.

Taylor and Beyonce are the only women nominated. Taylor clearly has a slim body, and her video had a large cast of women (a lot of whom also have slim bodies). Whether or not the comment was intentionally about Taylor, there is no way Nicki tweeted that without the thought of Taylor crossing her mind, considering she is the only VOTY nominee that fits her statement. It comes across as a jab at Taylor, suggesting she "took her spot".

Taylor saw that and took offense to it, saying that there are several other male nominees that could have "taken her spot" and it was unlike her to pit women against each other.

Katy steps in and tweets this, which is clearly about Bad Blood. Bad Blood is a very generally written song that doesn't even specify the gender of the person being referenced. It is about being betrayed by someone you thought of as a friend, and has no evidence or hint as to who it could be about. It doesn't even "drag" or trash talk the person in the song.....if you read the lyrics, it is all about what the person did, not who they are. Taylor briefly mentioned what inspired the feeling that the song is about for her. She was hurt and wrote a song about it.

No. Taylor's tweet literally referred to Nicki pitting women against each other, in the same way many feel that Taylor did with the "Bad Blood" drama.

While I don't think that it's appropriate for people to pretend Taylor was responding to any of the tweets about women of color, since she didn't, it's entirely valid to point out that the whole "Bad Blood" thing may be hypocritical coming from someone who is an open feminist.
