TV ratings: Grammy Awards on par with 2013, Pro Bowl holds steady

The 56th Grammy Awards drew about as big an audience as the 55th Grammys, with early ratings showing the prime-time portion of the show (which ran to 11:45 p.m. ET) in line with last year's numbers.
Also Sunday, NBC's Pro Bowl telecast was pretty much even with last year's despite the extra competition from the Grammys. "The Bachelor: Sean and Catherine's Wedding" didn't draw much of an audience for ABC, but it did improve significantly on a "Bachelorette" wedding special from December 2012.
CBS drew 25.9 million viewers and a 14.6 rating/22 share in households in primetime, beating the combined total of the other three networks. NBC (9.3 million, 5.4/8) came in second, although its numbers may rise with its live football broadcast. ABC (5.6 million, 3.7/6) took third, and FOX trailed with 3 million viewers and a 1.8/3.
CBS also dominated the 18-49 demographic with an 8.1 rating. NBC scored a 3.1 to finish second, and ABC and FOX tied for third at 1.3.

RATINGS BREAKDOWN
It was an easy overnight victory for CBS with the “56th Annual Grammy Awards” at a hefty (and approximate) 17.7 rating/28 share from 8 p.m.-12 a.m., peaking at a 19.1/27 in the 9 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, this was seven percent below the 19.1/27 for the year-ago telecast (on Feb. 10, 2013,) which translated into 28.37 million viewers and a 15.9 rating/25 share among adults 18-49 (based on the live plus same day data.)
Earlier in the evening on CBS was granddaddy “60 Minutes” at a dominant 9.6/13 from 7-8 p.m.
Finishing in the respectable No. 2 spot overall was NBC, with the 2014 Pro Bowl at an estimated 6.6/10 in the overnights from 7:30-11 p.m. Football coverage scored a 3.7/ 6 in the 7 p.m. half-hour, and results for any live sporting event, as always, are approximate.
Elsewhere, ABC populated the night with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#2: 4.3/ 7 at 7 p.m.,) 8-10 p.m. special “The Bachelor: Sean and Catherine’s Wedding” (#3: 4.5/ 6,) and a encore of “Castle” (#3: 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m.). And Fox finished fourth in each of its six half-hours as a result of repeats of “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.3/ 2) and “American Dad” (#4: 1.4/ 2) from 7-8 p.m., followed by original episodes of “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.5/ 4,) “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 2.0/ 3,) “Family Guy” (#4: 2.7/ 4,) and “American Dad” (#4: 2.2/ 7) from 8-10 p.m., which were all wasted opposite “The Grammy Awards.”
