Michael Joseph Jackson. Prince Rogers Nelson. Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou. Three men who dominated pop music in the '80s, with their unique, distinctive sounds, bold songs, and charismatic, magnetic public personas.

These three men released three of their most important albums in the year 1987: Bad, Faith, and Sign "☮" The Times. Each had something to prove. Bad saw Michael taking creative control of his record in an attempt to maintain the success he had built for himself following Off The Wall and Thriler; Faith was George Michael's debut as a solo artist, which saw him trying to shake off the wholesome teen-pop image and sound Wham! had established for themselves; Sign "☮" The Times, Prince's first effort since his band, The Revolution, disbanded, saw him having to prove he could channel all his creativity and ideas into something that could match the acclaim and success of Parade and Purple Rain as a soloist. These men came to fight, and fight they did.
