Yes, James Cameron is filthy effing rich, so he can pretty much do whatever movie he wants.
So why the hell does he want to waste his time filming a Black Eyed Peas concert???
According to will.i.am, the Avatar director is slated to film the group out on tour while they are in South America. The footage will, of course, be converted into 3D and shown in movie theaters early next year. The Peas frontman explains:
“We have the biggest director because we are the biggest group on the planet. The Peas are filming it in South America. People will be able to see us in the theater with the 3D glasses and everything…There will be a storyline that [Cameron] came up with, which will be dope. It’s a full-length film and it’s based around our tour activities. We’ve toured from America and Europe, to the Middle East, South America, Asia and Africa."
This is really excellent for the band, but kind of lame for Cameron.
Plus, geeks across the globe are not going to be that thrilled that he is wasting his time on such frivolity and not focusing on bringing them more tales of Navi!
But why...? It's a concert, nothing special really. Any director can do it
And will.i.am ego is big, the rumors were true.
But I don't think this will effect the release of Avatar 2 that much. When is it planned anyway?
