Usher Talks about Bob Womack, new artists and lack of respect
Quote:
“I can remember as a kid, jut hearing incredible, incredible Blues and R&B music,” Usher tells Miss Info. ‘If You Think You’re Lonely’ is one of those songs that my grandmother would always play. I don’t know what it was, she just loved that song.”
“Redefining music was what they did every time they came to the studio–artists of that era. Bobby Womack is a classic [artist] and will always be. It’s unfortunate that there’s not more categories to recognize legendary classic artists, because we’re losing them faster than we can even account. Everyday I’m almost like checking in with Stevie, I’m checking in with Lionel Richie who’s going to be recognized this year. I just seen him not too long ago and gave him a big hug. Basically he understood that it ain’t about a hit. It has never been about a hit with a classic artist. We loved them. They actually paved the way so that we would be who we are as artists. Unfortunately, these young artists don’t get that. The new, up & coming artists, I don’t think that they understand it. I think that it’s a product of bad parenting. I think that either the lack thereof or just bad parenting or maybe parents just not understanding. You have to be taught how to act.”
