I will never understand the Adele "black music" argument. Most of her songs are her playing ****ing acoustic guitar and singing piano only ballads.

First, there is nothing R&B about Adele's music

Second, Adele gets pushed because she actually makes money for the label. It's not like she was getting this level of promotion before 21 happened. J-Hud had her chance after her Oscar win, but her music was garbage

Jennifer's career failed because she couldn't live up to the hype that the industry bestowed upon her when she was winning all of those movie awards. I remember the "Jennifer DESTROYS Beyoncé" articles and knew she couldn't live up to the hype. Plus, her music really sucked. That's not Adele's nor the industry's problem. There are a lot of Black women who deserve to be in the spotlight because of their music and voice, and Jennifer Hudson is NOT one of them. And I don't take the word of David seriously. His rise to fame was being a contestant on a dating show.

Black people invented rock and roll. The **** are you talking about? Looking like a bigger fool. Adele sings like a black woman singing black music, and you will deal. Talking about people needing an education in music while exposing your ignorance and lack of education on the subject! A complete MESS.

There's a little R&B influence in like three of her songs, but of all her genre-specific inspirations, it's probably the least represented yet the one always brought up in this argument.

People act like Adele just took off out of nowhere. She took off the way she did because of songs like RITD.

JHud has had more opportunities at success than anyone else. She's always at the Oscars, Grammys, etc yet she continues to release garbage material. That's not Adele's fault.

And when did I mention anything about rock and roll? Do you even know what acoustic guitar is? And Adele's singing voice is her natural singing voice. It would be one thing if she was faking it.

her being white makes her more marketable, but her music is also just the right amount of pop and her voice is just the right amount of soul that it can be pushed to a wider audiences than traditional r&b artists.

How are you going to argue that she's making "Celine-type music" last week, then say that she's singing "Black music" this week?

It's either one or the other, or like Mike91 suggested, she's inspired by both types.

I know a lot of people, before they saw her, originally thought Adele was black when they heard 'Hometown Glory' on the radio. Fair assumption. But she doesn't "sing like a black woman".

It's clearly Adele's natural singing style/tone and she isn't in any way trying to make herself racially ambiguous. Her music has just always simply appealed to a wide range of people.
