Rihanna has yet to top the US album’s chart with any of her six releases but one thing the singer has managed to top is the list of most pirated albums of 2012.

In a recent release by website Musicmetric via BBC, the Bajan singer’s recent album ‘Talk That Talk’; which spawned the mega hit single ‘We Found Love (ft. Calvin Harris)’ was revealed to have been the most illegally downloaded album in the world so far this year. In fact, ‘Talk That Talk’ was illegally downloaded some 1,228,313 times during the first half of 2012 alone.

Said report also indicates that the United States is the largest country in terms of music piracy with 96,681,133 illegal downloads tracked in the last six months, followed by the United Kingdom with 43,263,582 downloads in the first six months of 2012.

Fun fact: The most popular pirated artist in the United States is rapper Drake.

I'm really trying not to be flamebaity here, but the navy shouldn't parade this around like it's an accomplishment. This just means less people want to buy her music than other artists.

Interesting the UK does comparatively way more illegal downloading..

And Rihanna would always be a huge target for most downloads... high profile pop album, recently released.

Ummmm... I think that people wanting Rihanna's songs IS indeed VERY positive.

Its true that those people that could've bought it legally didnt do it... but that doesnt mean they chose to buy any other artist instead.

Maybe they didnt have the money... or they simply didnt buy music as 95% of the young people does.

The stat you wanna focus on though is percentage of possible sales affected. In comparison to other artists when it comes to volume shifted, Rihanna's doing amazingly well. Loud in 2010 was also the most pirated, but sales were decent in comparison...compare that to Kylie's Aphrodite, which sold a paltry amount of units in comparison and yet, out of seemingly nowhere, showed up 10th on the list of most pirated albums that year...and I say that as a stan (I think my receipt's UK only, but you get the point.) In other words, pirating drastically affected K as opposed to R when actually comparing to sales. That situation works similarly for other artists.
