Harry Reid and Lady Gaga's bad romance
(CNN) – Pop singer Lady Gaga is embroiled in an unexpected back-and-forth on Twitter with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
Earlier today, Gaga encouraged her flocks of fans on Twitter to call upon Reid to schedule a Senate vote on the policy.
"Gay Veterans were my VMA dates. Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell," Gaga tweeted on Tuesday. "CALL HARRY REID to Schedule Senate Vote."
A repeal would end the Clinton-era policy that prevents gay Americans from openly serving in the military.
The problem? The vote is already scheduled for next week. And, Reid actually supports the repeal.
His staff tweeted a response to Gaga's tweet.
"@ladygaga There is a vote on #DADT next week. Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so," the tweet read.
Reid has long been an advocate for repealing the policy.
Gaga's call to action comes after her surprising arm candy at the Video Music Awards. She strutted down the white carpet with four gay and lesbian veterans who either were forced to–or chose to–leave the military in the name of their sexuality.
