Discussion: MEGARATE: UK #1s, 2000-2012 (The final!)

...The UK.

It's known for many things- the Industrial Revolution, the birthplace of football ("soccer") , once owning around a quarter of the world, constantly doing terribly in the Eurovision Song Contest, giving the world Tom Hardy (and Tom Hardy's nudes)...the list goes on. But most importantly, we're a land of dreams, harmony and absolutely diabolical #1 singles. We've given the world plenty of talent over the last decade, the last century, heck, we never stop- but we're also a land willing to embrace everything pop throws at us.

So we will make Teletubbies say Eh Oh! a #1, and we will pay an irrelevant mess like this or this dust. And you know what? You will deal.

So let's get down to business. Let's rate things. Britney, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Gaga, Madonna, Enya....all the girls are waiting.

Well, I say all the girls...

So here, I've given you the last 12 years of the UK's pop #1 perfection (females only, because really who cares about men?). It's down to you as the impartial voter to, on a score of 0-10, give each and every song a score. 0 would represent a We Belong Together-style unlistenable, unscoreable wreck, whilst 10 would be a Teletubbies-style masterpiece that is totally and fully perfect in 100% beautiful sonic harmony.

(To clarify, 0 is the worst possible score, 10 is the best)

So where are the songs you'll be rating? They're right below, stupid! Remember, you're PM'ing all your scores to my inbox!

SONGS

I've provided Youtube links for each and every song- so make sure you spend some time reminding yourself of how great (or how awful) every song is. Don't just mark a song based on your opinion of the artist and their personality, don't mark an artist down because you stan for a base that traditionally hates the artist in question- give your mark based on the song and the song only.

I've been doing these rates since before you were even born (well, sort of- I ran them on another website before the idea came to ATRL), so I'll be on the watch for trolling. If I deem your scores too troll-some, they won't be counted. Because there's so many songs (131!), I'm going to keep the voting open until Thursday 30th August, 6:59pm GMT- or longer if demand requires it. They're mostly classics (apart from Michelle McManus), so you should be familiar with 80-90% of them.

I'll make up for my awful Microsoft Paint skills by throwing in a few surprises as we go along the
rate, so I hope you enjoy what I hope will be one of the most exciting rates in ATRL history!

The songs they had that reached #1 were just weird as hell. I have no idea how Sexy! No No No didn't manage to reach #1, that song is perfection and a 10/10 if ever there were one. They managed something crazy like 20 consecutive Top 10 singles, yet very rarely actually went all the way to the top.

I still expect The Promise to be a 10 though, no excuses.

I'm giving The Promise a 5.

Never was a huge fan. I'll Stand By You is also their WORST song. How was that the only song on the album to reach #1? But, Sound of the Underground is flawless and a 10/10. I mean, not even Biology is a #1 and that's considered their signature song.

I'll Stand By You is trash, but it's not their worst. There's worse even in this rate, you just have to walk a certain way to notice it.

Cheryl's solo #1s are way better than the #1s with the group, which almost always never happens when a girl embarks on her solo career.
