I'd like to hear some of my fellow latinos' opinion on how do you identify yourselves as? White? Black? I always feel so confused about this topic, I do not see/identify as white nor black. I understand latino/hispanic it's not a race but it's so weird to say oh, I'm white or black when I do not look like either of those two races. I have light skin but I mean for example if you see someone like George Lopez(the comedian) do you see him as a white person? black? we have this look that most of the times one can always tell you are from/or have parents/grandparents from a Latin American country. We are a mix of spaniards who came over to discover new territories and native people that lived in those countries so I don't really see how we are either white or black.

I always say im Latin/Hispanic like you'll never see me saying I'm white or black because that's like really weird What are your thoughts on this? Do you ever say you are white or black??

Examples:

Alexis Bledel, she totally looks like a white chick, Celia Cruz looked like an African American lady but like I said then there's people like George Lopez, Michelle Rodriguez, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendez who are totally in between.

PS: Please be respectful and don't be messy I know most Atrlers are always so messy when it comes to race threads but I just want to see what's your view on this topic. Keep any ignorant, racists comments to yourself.

I was pulled over by the cops for speeding. I didn't have my liscencse so i told them my Id number and he called in to verify that I do have a liscence (this cop was really chill lol).

He was communicating on his radio thing and he said I was a "white male, age blah, birth date blah blah blah"

I interrupted him and told him that I am hispanic and he said "No, son, you're white."

I was horrified. Do not lump me in with those people.

Yeah I do not identify as any of the races in forms tbh, technically speaking if I had to classify myself in terms of race my ancestors were Spanish and native Mexicans and I've been told that I look "white" if that makes sense but culturally I just consider myself Mexican or Hispanic.

Speaking of George Lopez he did a race test and he was like 50% white, 40% indigenous, 8% Asian or something like that and I thought that was cool, I've always wanted to know what my ethnic make up is.

I'm definitely Mestizo. My dad's side definitely has a lot of Native American and my mom's side is for sure white with his blue eyes and blonde(now white) hair.

This topic always interested me. Sorry I'm not hispanic but I'll answer anyway. Scientifically Hispanic is not a race, my forensics teacher said they usually fall under being white or black racially because they don't have their own distinct characteristics. However nearly everyone mistaken being Hispanic as its own race, including Hispanics who don't identify with white nor black. I think even in the census its not counted? Idk when or why there became a separation. From what I hear a lot of hispanics don't like to accept their black ancestry, and others aren't accepted as being white, so that could be a reason. But for instance someone like Joan Smalls(model) would be considered black, but will Michelle Rodriguez be considered white?

LOL. Yes, I'm like do not call me white lol I am not white I'm freaking Hispanic lol. It's really confusing when I hear people say its not a race(and I guess its not). i wonder if this apply to asians as well? Are they suppose to call themselves white?

That's my point like I know my people and if you put 50 hispanics in a room and tell us we are white or black we're gonna be like hell no we are NAWT!!! The only ones that might really accept this are the Afro Latinos they do say they are black most of the times like Lance said on his post he identifies as black. Exactly people like Salma, Michelle or Jlo? Like I said not to racially stereotype my people but if you see George Lopez in the streets? would you say oh look at that black guy? or look at that white guy? You'll always say oh look at that latino

I've never identified as black or white. If anyone asks me, I tell them that I'm hispanic.

I'd definitely be interested in taking one of those DNA tests to find out my ethnic ancestry though.
