According to Guinness Book of World Records Madonna is the "most successful female solo artist, selling over 295 million albums as of as of December 2005, Madonna had 12 multi-platinum albums certified by the RIAA (US), which, in all, had certified her for shipments of 64 million units in USA. In a 2005 press release, her record label, Warner Bros., reported she had international sales in excess of 250 million albums. Madonna's The Immaculate Collection is the highest selling, greatest hits album by a female artist in the world and in the U.S., with more than 10 million U.S. sales and 25 million worldwide sales. In January 2006, The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry published its updated list of the 150 highest selling artists ever. Madonna appears at number 4, right behind the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, with a total of 295 Millions records sold worldwide from 1984 to late 2005. She also ranks as the highest selling female.
Since Madonna's first single release in 1982, she has amassed 36 top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, a record that ties her with Elvis Presley for the most top 10 hits of any artist in the Rock era. She is well-known for her groundbreaking and often controversial music videos, which have garnered her 20 MTV Video Music Awards (including the Video Vanguard Award). Madonna has five Grammy Awards to her credit ,as well as a Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award for her performance in Evita, though as an actor she is perhaps more infamously remembered for her several Golden Raspberry-"winning" ("Razzie") performances in such critically maligned films as Swept Away and Shanghai Surprise.
Madonna is arguably the richest female artist in the world. According to Sunday Times Rich List of 2005, her cash on hand is estimated at between $850 million and $1 billion. In 2004 alone, she earned more than $50 million alone with her Reinvention Tour. Madonna has assets that span the globe, and include an artwork collection- of which some is near pricessless!

Prior to Janet Jackson, she previously held the record for the most consecutive top-ten hits among female artists (17) ("Borderline" to "Cherish").
In the first six months of 1985, Madonna had six separate hit singles on the Billboard Charts (and five videos in rotation at once on MTV).
