Before anyone mentions the low sales, single sales during her peak eras were a lot lower. Only 11 songs from the 80s decade have sold more than 1m, compared to 27 from the 90s (when she was flopping) and 10 in the naughties (when she had single success again).

Her songs cost a lot and you actually had to go buy them from a record store.
Sales have been much higher since 2008 due to digital downloads which you can buy for 99 cents while laying in bed naked.
She is by far the best selling female in the UK. Both in album and single sales.

Into The Groove selling 871k physically is more impressive than any of Rihanna's singles though.

That's true, but it's still surprising. And there were lots of million sellers in the physical era, so she could've done it. I'm not shading her by the way, if anything I'm complementing her, since I think she deserves to have million sellers.
Hung Up has done very well to sell that much considering it was released in 2005 when sales were at their all time lowest.
It's funny how Holiday got released 3 times. I can think of a lot of songs that get re-released once, but twice has got to be rare!

Because Hung Up was literally a MONSTER outside the US. You only see once every 5 years such massive hits. I mean, no1 in 41 countries on official weekly charts. Not irrelevant i-tunes positions. Who else...
