Most of my American friends all drive automatic cars. I was always shocked at the short timespan my friends were able to get their driving license. Just recently I learned a vast majority of Americans is unable to drive manually. That explains how quick some of y'all get through your driving lessons whilst I'm struggling with my 40 lessons and upcoming practical exam.
Can you drive w/ shift stick? Or do you drive an automatic car?
We aren't "unable", it's just a waste of time when most vehicles here are automatic. Yes, it is a valuable skill if you end up having to drive a manual at some point, but most people are fine without it because they'll never have to.
I'm American and can drive a manual car. For the average driver, there's no real benefit to driving manual over an automatic. I personally prefer manual because I enjoy driving more, but there's no real reason when automatic is fine.
I've never seen a car without a shift stick. I wouldn't know how to drive an automatic car.
I've had like 120 or even more driving lessons before I passed my driving test because I'm a bit slow when it comes to learning manual skills. Shift stick wasn't much of a problem.
Unneeded? Majority of cars aren't automatic. Not to mention manual cars have a bigger amount of advantages over automatic cars. Imo, you aren't a real driver unless you also know how to work a stick shift car.

I agree. Anyone can drive an automatic car, but driving manually requires skill.

automatic transmissions dominate the U.S. car market. A USA Today article from 2012 reported that just 19 percent of new vehicles on the market offered standard transmissions.
It's not that we're "unable" most of us aren't taught to drive stick because there are barely any stick cars sold in the market. I know how to drive (as do all my siblings) cause my dad taught me
Yeah because being able to drive stick shift certainly boosts one ego.

I drive to get to places I want to go to. I don't care if I'm not a "real" driver for not knowing how to drive manual. I have better things to do with my time.
