Any couple can marry in a state with no marriage law by filing a court injunction and ALL marriages performed in Mexico are recognized throughout the ENTIRE country.

Anyway, on June 3, 2015 the Mexican Supreme Court ruled that:

1. All lower judges should rule for gay couples when they file injunctions to marry
2. All current statutes and bans are contrary to the Constitution
3. They rejected the marriage is only for procreation argument and deemed it discriminatory

Keep in mind this only applies to judges and not county clerks so couples can only use this if they're denied a marriage license. The process can take months and is expensive, so still work to be done.

The largest state has fallen. Chihuahua got tired of being sued so by governmental decree they said that any two people who go to a registry should receive a license

They still haven't passed the marriage bill so the law on the books is still the same, but I had read that the judge gave them until this year to make the changes and this is a first step.

Chihuahua only let couples apply for licenses, it didn't codify the law, but now they will before the end of the month. Gay couples will now sue for adoption rights to change that law too

Ever since the news spread, little by little states are stating their reactions to the ruling. Expect Jalisco, Estado de Mexico to be next after Chihuahua.

Great! Latin America seems just as/more homophobic than the States, so this is wonderful progress

Mess I didn't know there were so many legal challenges, but it's coming! I was raised in Baja California and Jalisco and I see both are close, hope it becomes legal everywhere though!

Jalisco has been sued so many times I see them being one of the next, you're right.

Baja California is actually the Texas when it comes to gay marriage there. It took the first couple four times to have a wedding when all the other couples nationwide had the states comply. Mexicali, more like Mexi-changui

There was a first gay marriage in my state early this month so I am glad that soon we will be able to make this process nationwide, pull through Mexico.

Michoacán's judge ain't playin', she gave Congress three days to start making changes so couples can marry or she'll snatch the Governor and Congress President's weave
