Billboard 200 Albums (September 25-October 2, 2013)
Singer/songwriter Jack Johnson claims his fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as "From Here to Now to You" bows atop the list with 117,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The new effort is his third consecutive studio set to debut at No. 1, following "Sleep Through the Static" (2008) and "To the Sea" (2010). (He also opened at No. 1 with his soundtrack to the film "Curious George" in 2006.)
"From Here to Now to You," however, starts with Johnson's lowest debut sales week since his first album, 2001's "Brushfire Fairytales." That set arrived in February of that year, selling fewer than 1,000 copies in its first week. Comparably, Johnson's last two albums started with more than twice the opening sum of "From Here." His last studio set, "To the Sea," sailed in with 243,000, and "Sleep Through the Static" bowed with 375,000.
Johnson leads a debut-filled top 10, where all of the top five titles are new entries for the first time in a little more than a year. That last occurred on the Sept. 29, 2012, chart (reflecting the sales week ending Sept. 16) when Dave Matthews Band, Little Big Town, Bob Dylan, the Avett Brothers and the xx started at Nos. 1-5, respectively.
About 20,000 copies behind Johnson this week is country singer Justin Moore, who logs his best sales week yet with his new album, "Off the Beaten Path." It debuts at No. 2 with 97,000 and secures him a second No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart.
The new set is his third full-length studio album, following "Outlaws Like Me" in 2011 and his self-titled debut in 2009. The former bowed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with 65,000 in its first week. The self-titled album entered at No. 10 with 34,000.
"Off the Beaten Path" is currently enjoying a No. 2 single on the Country Airplay chart: The song "Point at You" rises 3-2 this week.
Moore's "Off the Beaten Path" is one of five country albums in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week—the most in the region in more than three years. Joining Moore in the country parade are the debuting Chris Young ("A.M." at No. 3) and Billy Currington ("We Are Tonight" at No. 10), along with Luke Bryan ("Crash My Party," moving 4-6 in its sixth week with 47,000; down 11%) and Keith Urban ("Fuse," falling 1-8 in its second week with 31,000; down 69%).
Country last swamped the top 10 with five titles way back on Oct. 30, 2010. That week, Darius Rucker's "Charleston, SC 1966" (No. 2), the Band Perry's self-titled album (No. 4), Kenny Chesney's "Hemingway's Whiskey" (No. 6), Zac Brown Band's "You Get What You Give" (No. 8) and Toby Keith's "Bullets in the Gun" (No. 9) reigned in the top 10.
Young's "A.M." bows with 53,000 and becomes his highest-charting album (though not his best sales week). It’s his second top 10 effort, following 2011's "Neon," which claimed his biggest sales week when it started with 73,000 at No. 4.
Currington, meanwhile, nets his second top 10 album, as "We Are Tonight" enters with 26,000. That's a smaller start than what he saw with his last album (and previous top 10 set), 2010's "Enjoy Yourself." It bowed at No. 9 with 45,000.
In the No. 4 slot this week is the debuting compilation "MMG: Self Made 3," with 50,000. The Maybach Music Group-branded release features contributions from Meek Mill, Wale, Rick Ross and others. It's the third consecutive "Self Made" compilation to bow in the top five. The first started at No. 5 with 59,000 in 2011, while the second launched at No. 4 with 98,000 in 2012.
One more debut populates the action-packed top five this week: Avicii's "True" starts at No. 5 with 50,000. It marks the biggest bow for a solo EDM artist's first studio album. The set's smash hit single, "Wake Me Up!," rises 8-4 on the Pop Songs airplay chart this week (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz).
A whopping 91% of first-week sales for “True” were downloads, equating to 45,000 digital albums. Comparably, 68% of the first-week sales for Johnson's No. 1 debut were from digital sales (80,000 downloads).
To finish wrapping up the top 10 this week: 2 Chainz's "B.O.A.T.S. II #METIME" slips 3-7 with 35,000 (down 46%), and the Weeknd's "Kiss Land" falls 2-9 with 26,000 (down 73%).
Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 22) totaled 4.543 million units, up less than 1% compared with the sum last week (4.541 million) and down 16% compared with the comparable sales week of 2012 (5.42 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 200 million, down 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (212.7 million).
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2012 when: Mumford & Sons' "Babel" debuted at No. 1 with 600,000 sold, while Green Day's "Uno!" bowed at No. 2 with 139,000. The previous week's leader, P!nk's "The Truth About Love," fell to No. 4 with 94,000 (down 66%).

The decline. No wonder why Ross haven't release his album yet.

Tamar and Big Sean's albums are doing horribly. So disappointed especially with their first week sales.

While Billboard has yet to announce this week's top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, we're already looking ahead to next week's tally. (This week's top 10 will be released tomorrow, Oct. 2.)
It's all but inevitable that Drake's "Nothing Was the Same" will claim the chart throne on this week's chart. However, with this week's batch of new albums having been released an on off-cycle Monday (instead of Tuesday), we're taking an early look at what is heading for the top of next week's chart. (Next week's top 10 albums will be revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 9.)
That said, Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2" is bound for the top of the Billboard 200, so say industry forecasters. It might debut with around 325,000 copies sold by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Oct. 6.
The arrival at No. 1 would give Timberlake two chart-topping albums this year, following the No. 1 bow of "The 20/20 Experience" earlier this year. The new album, which is the second half of his two-part release, was led by the single "Take Back the Night." It reached No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month. The album's second single, "TKO," bowed on the Hot 100 last week at No. 54.
Some may be wondering why this week's major new albums all hit retail on Monday, instead of the usual Tuesday. Timberlake's camp announced the release date in May, perhaps owed to how it is the final day of the eligibility period for the upcoming Grammy Awards. Other big albums that had been scheduled for a Tuesday, Oct. 1 release then followed Timblerlake's lead, and moved up their release one day to Monday.
After Timberlake, we should Lorde bow at No. 2 with her debut full-length effort, "Heroine." It is on track to sell perhaps 115,000 to 125,000. Its hit single "Royals" just wrapped a seven-week run at No. 1 on the Alternative airplay chart. This week, it falls 1-2. Over on the Mainstream Top 40 chart (known as Pop Songs on Billboard.com), the cut remains bulleted at No. 5 for a second week (though it's up by 24% in spins at the format, according to Nielsen BDS). It stood at No. 3 on the Hot 100 last week.
The albums from Timberlake and Lorde are the two more significant titles to arrive to market this week, and likely the only new albums that will sell over 50,000. Other new albums that will debut next week include HAIM's "Days Are Gone" (maybe 20,000), Tyler Farr's "Redneck Crazy" (15,000) and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "Unvarnished" (10,000).
