An overwhelming percentage of respondents at our Awards Tracker poll believe Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" would have won the Moonman for best video of the year if it had been nominated.

When asked if "Born This Way" would have beaten Katy Perry's "Firework" -– which claimed the top prize Sunday night -- 74% (1,675 votes out of 2,267) said "Absolutely. Yes. Definitely" while 26% (592 votes) said "Nooooo way." There is strong evidence to back up the majority belief: "Born This Way" bested "Firework" in the two categories where they competed -– best female video and best video with a message. The latter category was hurriedly added to the lineup after nominations were unveiled and widespread outrage erupted over the fact that "Born This Way" didn't make the top race.

There's a strong possibility that MTV wanted a new diva to dominate this year's awards after Lady Gaga romped with eight victories in 2010. This year, she received only one nomination at first -– for best female video -– compared to nine for Perry, but then the Video Music Awards added the new category for best video with a message.

When nominations were announced and Lady Gaga fared so poorly, Awards Tracker polled readers to get their views. About 84% of respondents (4,655 voters out of 5,529) checked off this response: "MTV wants to crown a new pop diva so they rigged the vote results to favor Katy Perry."

I agree with this, however, if E.T. was switched with firework, there would be no complaints. E.T. was a much better video than BTW imo.
