30) The Lumineers – Ho Hey
“Ho, hey. Ho, hey. (Ho) I’ve been trying to do it right (Hey) I’ve been living a lonely life (Ho) I’ve been sleeping here instead (Hey) “ As Wesley Schultz strums down the guitar and sings along the opening verse, this too me has become one of the most catchiest songs in 2012. It doesn't get out of your head when you first heard it. It just irresistible catchy. Alternative music have been really huge this year, and I'm glad they are one of the bands who are starting the wave amongst mainstream. They are an awesome band that deserves their success they have been getting and I am really glad they grabbed a Best New Artist nomination at the Grammys. Look for this band to some achieve great things in their career(s).
29) AWOLNATION – Kill Your Heroes
I discovered 'Sail' a year ago, and this song is their current singe on the charts. Megalithic isn't on the countdown, but if it was, Sail would have ranked pretty high on last year's chart. This song however is good.. I like the whole feel of it. The chanting chorus, is pretty catchy.
28) Bruce Springsteen – We Take Care of Our Own
Da Boss! Bruce Springsteen is awesome. I have always like the dude. At the beginning of the year, I found out he was recently coming back with new music. I was really anticipating the new music because I have always liked him. 'We Take Care of Our Own' is pretty great. I love the message of the song. It's uplifting message without making, it cheesy makes it one of my favorite singles of 2012. Surprised this song wasn't voted by the GRAMMY voters in the Song of the Year category .
27) Calvin Harris f/ Example – We'll Be Coming Back
Calvin Harris had a pretty nice year in terms of music. He blew up on radio with hits like 'Feel so Close,' 'We Found Love', and Let's Go. In terms of my favorite it would have to be this one with UK rapper/singer Example. I love the summer vibe to this song. The production on this song is great. Calvin is a good producer. I hope he releases to the US.
26) Phillip Phillips – Home
Ah, Phillip Phillips. When I heard first this song back in May at the finale, I wasn't really impressed by it. JLo's comment about how this sounds nothing like on radio really bothered me because of how well Mumford and Sons was doing in the charts still with their debut album (Crazy longevity), so whenever I heard this song I just wrote it off as a “Mumford and Sons” reject song,, because thats what It sounded like too me. Then, I don't know, I heard this song again one day, and my opinion surprisingly changed on it. It's actually a pretty dang decent song for an American Idol coronation single.
25) Walk the Moon – Anna Sun
“Screen falling off the door door hanging off the hinges
My feet are still sore my back is on the fringes
We tore up the walls we slept on couches
We lifted this house we lifted this house”
The beginning is so good of this song. It instantly brings you in when you start playing the track. I love this song because its really has a nice production too it, and the melody is nice too it. One of the best Alternative songs I have heard this year. Catchy lyrics, even though it doesnt really seem like it.
