During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.
"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.
"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.
Dunst has yet to receive a script for the third film that will begin shooting in January. "But I know the general story. There's a lot that they're trying to fit into this one."
The next villian would probably be the hob goblin since it was hinted at at the end of the second movie. If there were to add another villian, then they should go with that 'Mysterio' guy. That would be awesome
If they are doing the Venom from Ultimate Spiderman, than Topher Grace is perfect for the role. The origin of Venom is a lot better there anyway, IMO. Plus even if he's not, I don't care. I'm tired of comic fans whining about film adaptions. I mean people were pissy about how Halle Berry's wig in Xmen wasn't accurate. Come the frick on.
There are small things that fans should realize make a better change, like Peter having organic webbing and stuff like that.
But there really is no reason to do a new Venom origin. Peter gets the suit, it makes him too violent, he gets rid of it, Eddie Brock who hates Spider-Man gets it, Venom his born.
That works if you simply it that much. Otherwise you have to deal with all that Alien crap. The ultimate storyline is based in science which fits in well with the movies.
