I just got back from being dragged to Pitch Perfect 2 and I'm kind of disturbed
Like... there were SO many racist jokes. Everything the announcers said was racist or misogynistic (and yeah, I get that's their shtick, but it was way overboard compared to the first movie). The new Guatemalan character is a complete stereotype and literally said nothing besides one-liners about comparing how awful and dangerous life is in Guatemala. She said that her plans after finishing college were being deported, trying to sneak back in, and then dying in the process
the lesbian character is horny all the time and can't function around a girl without making a move.
The thing that bothers me most is that the audience laughed the hardest at the jokes that were funny at the expense of a minority group. It says a lot about society and it seems like we're taking multiple steps back by including jokes like that in a modern movie. It felt like cheap comedy. There were some parts that were genuinely funny but the racist jokes became so plentiful I just felt uncomfortable.
