I just got back from being dragged to Pitch Perfect 2 and I'm kind of disturbed

Like... there were SO many racist jokes. Everything the announcers said was racist or misogynistic (and yeah, I get that's their shtick, but it was way overboard compared to the first movie). The new Guatemalan character is a complete stereotype and literally said nothing besides one-liners about comparing how awful and dangerous life is in Guatemala. She said that her plans after finishing college were being deported, trying to sneak back in, and then dying in the process the lesbian character is horny all the time and can't function around a girl without making a move.

The thing that bothers me most is that the audience laughed the hardest at the jokes that were funny at the expense of a minority group. It says a lot about society and it seems like we're taking multiple steps back by including jokes like that in a modern movie. It felt like cheap comedy. There were some parts that were genuinely funny but the racist jokes became so plentiful I just felt uncomfortable.

Just your typical american comedy whose target audience are young white people. Nothing new there.

If you want to fight for equal rights and racism, bashing pitch perfect is not a good place to start.

It needs to be boycotted by people who don't want racism to spread.

Pitch Perfect 2's jokes were flat out racist whereas most other comedies are at least somewhat creative with their offensive jokes... ones that the minorities might actually laugh at. Everyone in PP2 was stereotyped to a T.

It's called comedy. The jokes were so one dimensional that you are supposed to know to not take them seriously. If you do that's your problem.

Yes, holy ****. I saw it last night and it was crazy.

The Black, Asian, and Latina characters only existed as racial caricatures. The occasional time they spoke or took any action it it was some kind of stereotype about their identity. Meanwhile, the other white characters got to be actual individuals.

The deportation jokes were extremely unfunny though, I agree.
