The Elite Ten: SHADE's 2008 Ending Five [Number Two (02)]
I thought that I'd at least start my thread now so that I don't forget to make one later on. I have all 50 of the songs going into my top 50 already but I am still not 100% sure about the order. This will be the hardest list I have ever done and possibly the longest with the extras. Stay tuned as I will make sure to sort the lower songs first in order to get this started.
However, there are a few songs I want to mention first. These two songs were both released very late into 2008 and did not stand much of a chance of making the countdown because of that. These songs would have most likely appeared on the countdown but were released too late to do so. I call these Notable Mentions.
Notable Mentions
The Smashing Pumpkins - G.L.O.W.
- I was never really too much into The Smashing Pumpkins even though I have heard a few of their songs. The bassist is pretty good I have to say but I'm still not too big a fan of their songs. G.L.O.W. really isn't too amazing of a song, but it's still decent and deserves to be mentioned.
The Toadies - No Deliverance
- I have only heard one Toadies song before so I decided to give No Deliverance a shot. No Deliverance would have easily placed in the top 40 this year had it been released earlier, but due to it coming out a little too late this year, I didn't have enough time to consider it. This song's actually a lot better than a good amount of songs on here, but it was too late for No Deliverance. Check it out for it's guitar and bass. And I guess everything else.
And here we are to start off my top 50 of 2008! As always, I start off with the first 5 songs on the list and usually continue from there with little bonuses every time after that. These songs aren't the best but were decent enough to make the list.
50. Coldplay - Violet Hill
- Coldplay starts off the 2008 list with what may be their first appearance on one of my lists (Speed Of Sound MAY have made it). This song I really didn't get into too much during the year, but it did get a few listens from me. I don't think it's as good as Clocks or Shiver by far, but it's got a nice beat to it and barely makes it onto this year's list.
49. Queen & Paul Rodgers - C-Lebrity
- C-Lebrity was one of the songs that I discovered in my September surge of songs. While the song is pretty decent, it's not really the Queen that we all know and love so that kind of makes the song lose a bit from me. Paul Rodgers reminds me of Dio and the guitar in this song actually sounds a lot like The Metal by Tenacious D.
48. The Black Keys - I Got Mine
- I Got Mine is also a song from the September surge. Unlike C-Lebrity, I had never heard of The Black Keys before this song. I Got Mine has a nice feel to it and has some unique sounds to it. There isn't much I can say about this song because I really don't know too much about the band and the song just isn't as amazing as other stuff on here.
47. Alkaline Trio - I Found Away
- This song was put onto my iPod by accident because of a CD I was making for someone that actually didn't get any of the Alkaline Trio songs on it. I heard it was going to be a single so I decided to give it a few listens. While it's definately not as good as some of the other stuff Alkaline Trio has released in the past, it's still a pretty good song. This probably would have made the list a little higher had I discovered it earlier in the year.
46. Kid Rock - All Summer Long
- All Summer Long I thought at first was just a huge rip off of Sweet Home Alabama until I found out that it actually sampled the song. I thought it was pretty catchy and actually allowed me to listen to non-rock stations at times when the song was on. Kid Rock is definately better like this than his rapcore ****. All Summer Long has a nice calming feel to it and can really be listened to in any kind of mood.
There you have the first 5 songs from 2008. Tommorrow you'll get the next 5, along with the first batch of non-singles from the year. Stay tuned for more!
