Do you think Beyonce needed DC to jump start her career?
I mean all of their big hits were the ones where Beyonce was singing lead the whole time. And their biggest hit "Independent Woman" and album "Survivor" was wrote and produced by mainly Beyonce.
Do you think if she came out solo releasing the exact same material DC released and the material she was releasing as a solo artist she would of still been successful?
Yes she did. Everything happened for a reason and she needed that "Girl Group" exposure to catapult her career. it may sound silly seing that she WAS Destiny' Child but I think when she was in the group it made people realize how much of a star she really was. it made her stand out and the group only complimented her star quality. Plu, it was the 90s Monica and Brandy was already in their peaks along with acts like Mary J. Maybe the industry woldnt be open to another solo female R&B artist. Sometimes it doesnt even matter how talented you are. DC was her gateway.
I really don't see how her having 3 girls people could barely name dancing behind her is really more different than having 3 random back up dancers behind her.
Yes, definitely. If she would have started her career the same time that DC started (1996), she would have easily fallen into the same levels as most of the R&B "forces" at that time. If she debuted in 2003 she would have been a nobody and (most likely) wouldn't have been able to get Jay-Z on CIL which would greatly hinder her urban performance.
Essentially, DC launched her career into superstardom. There weren't many all-female R&B groups (let alone successful ones) at that time which made them something special.
Well, that really is quite impossible to tell. I can't image it being any other way, since she was basically raised being part of a group. Had that not been the case however, I'm sure that her talent would have carried her a very long way
yea if bey would have came out in the 90s as a solo it would not work i mean look at the solo African american women out there who r flops now she needed dc
if beyonce would have came out solo , she just would have been another brandy, monica, & aaliyah , destiny child stood out as a group. and as they grew as a group , that's when beyonce star started to shine brighter.
I think there wasn't enough room for a solo R&B/pop female singer when she started, Monica and Brandy were still big and Aaliyah was becoming mainstream
and on the pop side Britney was going to be a nightmare for her and then Christina who had three #1 singles
