Hello all,

I seldom post on ATRL but I visit the site daily and I really enjoy it. Since 2008, I have been doing lists of the 100 songs that I listened to the most during the year. Before 2010, I used weekly iTunes plays to give each song points, awarding longevity and high chart positions. Now, I do weekly countdowns with perceived positions based on how much I play a song and how much I liked it. I award extra points for high debuts and, every once in a while, for impact (if that makes sense, sorry).

Unfortunately, the top 100 of this year won't be available until December 27th, when the last weekly countdown will be ready and I'll calculate all the points. I can give you a sneek-peek: Lana Del Rey, Bastille and Avicii seem t be fighting for the top spot. I don't know who may get it!

In the coming weeks I'll post my tops 100 of 2008-2012 with short commetaries. In general, my favorite genres are pop, rock, alternative, and international pop/alternative. You may find a rap song every once in a while but I'm not into rap.

Don't be alarmed at The Wanted and One Direction, I don't listen to them that often. Jessie J, Avicii, Marina & The Diamonds and Scars on 45 are other European acts that made it! Ariana Grande, AWOLNATION and Glee debut in my year-end lists. Matt & Kim and Poncho are perhaps one hot wonders in my charts but nevertheless I enjoyed their music! Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and France are other countries with a presence in my charts! Did you like the first half of 2012?

Remember, the 2013 year-end will come after December 27! Meanwhile enjoy previous years. Also, I may do 13 "lucky" bubbling under singles of 2013 and my own music awards (which run from September 2012 to September 2013, ala VMAs).

(Off-topic: are there any Spanish speakers here? Feel free to comment on my Latin music choices! are there any old commenters of Billboard.com? I used to comment there a lot)

And let me close 2012 with the 50 songs that had the biggest impact on me last year! To be honest I consider 2012 to be the best year of music so far into this decade. I loved 2013, but 2012 was just lovely.

To be honest, I wasn't that excited about Carly being number one. I love 'Call Me Maybe' but Ho Hey was so irresistible and warm. Carly had the longevity factor (I was one of the first to discover the track in the US). All of the songs in the top 10 peaked at one in my weekly countdowns and all of them I love and will remember forever. Psy, Of Monsters and Men, Gotye and fun. were nice surprises, while Calvin and Mumford amazed me. (Michel Telo was more of a fad but his song was so catchy). British pop, Latin pop, piano pop songs, South African rap, French indie, Swedish alternative pop and even a couple of tween songs mix in my top 50 of 2012!
