From the rate thread:
Diamond Heart - generic adult contemporary
A-YO - sounds like a Jessica Simpson or Hannah Montana track
very poor attempt at chart success
Joanne - this one is gorgeous...wonderfully subdued production, moody vocals, everything.
John Wayne - Generic mess with horrible lyrics. And that intro and the bridge
Dancin' in Circles - I guess Jessica Simpson actually was the album inspiration...this sounds straight out of the early 00s. So dated...a lot of the album is, though. And not "funk me downtown..." lord. The bridge is an improvement until she goes out of her range again.
Perfect Illusion - Messy, basic production, repetitive lyrics, and screechy vocals. She needs to not sing out of her
range.
Million Reasons - Basic adult contemporary pop and repetitive, generic lyrics. It's an attempt at respect, but falls flat. No personality shines through.
Sinner's Prayer - This is an improvement. FJM's touch is very clear. Chorus is a bit too bland considering the verses, though.
Come to Mama - She's going for Ronettes, but achieves cheesy rom-com trailer music. Nice outro, though.
Hey Girl - How does a Florence/Gaga ballad fall flat like this? What on earth? The intro is gorgeous and then it goes into cheesy S Club 7 territory. The synth running through the song and Florence's vocals are great.
Angel Down - It's a nice theme idea, but the execution is pretty grating. And what on earth was that sickly head voice in the "bridge?" I like the outro...it's cute.
Yeah, it's a mess as expected...probably a 5/10. It's your typical subpar adult contemporary pop album, sadly. And that's pretty shocking considering the big names involved in production/writing. Most of the lyrics are cringeworthy....either attempting to be edgy and relatable or saccharine "let's love each other" cliches. She seems to be trying to appeal to the GP and critics at once, but it's far too generic or grating.
