On Rotten Tomatoes this has 23 reviews so far and has a 100% with a 8.6 average. Not bad! Let's see how it holds up, I'm kind of excited for it now. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/looper/
This is easily one of the best movies of the year, I think it tried to be a little too slick at times but that sort of balanced out once the kid and Emily Blunt's characters were introduced, I forgot she how good an actress she is, great performance. I ****ing loved it.
I saw it last night and was very disappointed. It's *ok*, but I can imagine all the geeks wetting their boxers over something that's very unremarkable but thinks it's really, really clever and gritty. It has an interesting premise and it starts off well, but it loses its way very soon thereafter and never recovers.
My main issues:
1. The prosthetics and make-up on Gordon-Levitt. Very distracting, fake and utterly unnecessary.
2. The action sequences were very flat. Vast swathes of this supposed "thriller" are actually very, VERY dull.
3. I didn't give a **** about any of the characters, so why should I care what happens? We're clearly *meant* to care, but it hasn't done anything to make us give a damn.
4. About half way through, it decides to turn into another film entirely, with a lame "evil kid with superpowers" plotline that totally gets in the way of everything that had occurred up to that point. Very clunky. The film doesn't really know what it is.
I find it hilarious that it has garnered so many glowing reviews.
