Discussion: Why is ATRL still so blind to Ke$ha's artistry?

As a Ke$ha stan I've been in a lot of Ke$ha-related threads lately, and it's becoming more and more clear to me that there are still so many people who think that Ke$ha is talentless, think Ke$ha can't sing, think Ke$ha needs Dr. Luke to be successful, think Ke$ha doesn't write her own music, think Ke$ha is just a singles artist, etc.

As a music fan I've been on ATRL for quite some time and I'm always willing to give artists a go. I'm not the biggest fan of Beyoncé but I can appreciate that she has a great voice and her latest release was a really good record.

So why do others who claim to be music fans appear to be so clueless towards artists that they don't like? I just have no idea how you can be so invested in the music of one artist and so unaware of the music for others just because you don't like them.

This thread is about Ke$ha but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about other artists too. Why do you think people who dislike artist feel the need to make negative comments about artists that they know nothing about, and more so, how do they not know these things? I mean it doesn't take a stan to know whether an artist has talent or not.

It's just that most people don't thinks she's talented. Sure she writes songs but maybe people don't think she writes GOOD songs. You can't assume that because someone's music fan they'll see talent in everyone that you do.

Warrior and its singles following Die Young were not exactly successful, so she's seen as a flop and vulnerable to lashings right now.

When Die Young was smashing and things looked good for the era, the amount of people saying the things you mentioned were on the other side of the argument supporting her and anticipating the era.

Come next first single, given it has success, people bashing her because it's the cool thing to do will appear to be on her side again - for the moment, because at that moment everyone will be loving her, too.

It happens for other artists, too. It's a cycle. It's ATRL.

Well, for me...

1. I do think she needs Dr. Luke to be successful, unfortunately.
Ke$ha is a character, as we now know, and she does pop music with Dr. Luke.
I don't see her being successful/commercial anymore if she splits from him & tries to be more serious/mature.
I just don't see it happening... it's all just a big mess now.

2. I think she clearly has talent & she can write, but has she actually released anything mature or artistic enough for people to realize this? No. Her albums are filled with fun, trashy [no shade] pop music. You can't really blame the GP for aligning her with the image she & Luke made for her from the very beginning.

3. I can't say I'm a huge fan of what she's released so far. She may have written all of her songs, but they all seem pretty disposable as well, except for a few like "Past Lives". That said, I'm very interested to see what she decides to do next.

But really this thread is a stan's response to the thread questioning whether or not she is a top pop girl, and that's the problem. Plenty of people realize that she has bigger capabilities than what she's been able to showcase, but it's not ATRL's fault that those talents remain mostly hidden. You really shouldn't have to listen to the non-singles and the unreleased tracks to discover that an artist really isn't as devoid of positive attributes as their promoted output makes it seem.

So maybe the answer to your question is that she doesn't/hasn't been allowed to show it.

Half of ATRL takes the music industry more seriously while typing up their posts on here than Ke$ha does as being a part of the music industry. Her lighthearted, almost-parodical demeanor is hard to get past but the talent/artistry is evidently there, she just isn't shoving it down our throats (which I think is a good thing).
