Hey!!!!
This took me too long to prepare, so here’s the deal: I’ll post the 100 songs in 6 sets starting tomorrow: 4 with 20 songs each and the final 2 with 10 each. I’ll be done, then, by Thursday (Dec 29th).
I’ll be waiting for your comments about the tracks.
Interesting facts about the chart:
1. There are some british bands you may not have heard. Hopefully you have.
2. There are 5 tracks in spanish (!!!): 1 Uruguayan singer, a Cuban group, 1 Argentinian band, 1 Argentinian singer and one peruvian band I highly recommend you to listen to.
3. There will be only 8 songs with female voices in it, and one is a sample (which is also one guilty pleasure of mine). So it’s the guys who rule the chart.
Close Calls
120. Robbie Williams/ Make Me Pure
119. Santana Featuring Steven Tyler/ Just Feel Better
118. Depeche Mode/ A Pain That I’m Used to
117. Kubb/ Remain
116. Stereophonics/ Rewind
115. Weezer/ We Are All On Drugs
114. Idlewild/ El Capitan
113. Shout Out Louds/ The Comeback
112. Vertical Horizon/ Forever
111. Texas/ Getaway
110. The Strokes/ Juicebox
109. Coldplay/ Fix You
108. H.I.M./ Wings Of A Butterfly
107. Dave Matthews Band/ American Baby
106. The Cardigans/ I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need To Be Nicer
105. Mariah Carey/ We Belong Together
104. Madonna/ Hung Up
103. Thrice/ Image Of The Invisible
102. Metric/ Monster Hospital
101. Augustana/ Stars And Boulevards
* By the way, that Weezer song on the close calls is the only Weezer song that will be mentioned.
* Poor Augustana, it’s a close call in almost every year end chart on ATRL, and it’s 101 in mine.
* Check out the first set (100- 81) tomorrow

The Killers
Smile Like You Mean It

The first of 2 songs by The Killers on the chart. They were the only ones taken into consideration (“Somebody Told Me” & “Mr. Brightside” were considered as 2004)
99
Kubb
Wicked Soul
Mother
Indie rock band whose lead singer was discovered by Faithless’ Rollo at a restaurant. Hopefully they will be more famous in the future.

Howl
Actually there’s nothing huge about this one but its beat, love it.
97
Audio Bullys Featuring Nancy Sinatra
Shot You Down
Generation
One of 2 guilty pleasures that made it to the top 100
96
Eisley
Telescope eyes
Room Noises
Band made by 4 siblings and their best friend. Just couldn’t resist to this ballad.
95
Kaiser Chiefs
Modern Way
Employment
One of the best indie albums that came out in 2004.It gave us more hits on 2005, and their latest single “Na Na Na Na Na” can already be heard on radio stations. The video for this song is cool.
94
Hard- Fi
Living For The Weekend
Stars Of C.C.T.V.
So much better than ‘Cash Machine´. They have 3 songs on this countdown.
93
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
In This Home On Ice
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Hope I can listen to more from them in 2006. I just don’t know about the band’s name. It’s kinda silly.
92
The Decemberists
Sixteen Military Wives
Picaresque
While the lyrics of the song try to prove a point, the video has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s fun as hell.
91
Starsailor
In The Crossfire
On The Outside
I don’t know whether it’s me or actually this band sounds the same as they did in their previous albums. Can’t stop loving them.
90
The Bravery
Fearless
The Bravery
The beginning of this song is so bizarre. Amazing
new band which you’ll see later in the chart.
89
Ben Lee
Catch My Disease (That’s The Way I Like It)
Awake is The New Asleep
They play Good Charlotte on the radio and that’s the way I like it, I hear Beyonce on the radio, and that’s the way I like it.
88
Gorillaz
Dare
Demon Days
Amazing Album, hope there are more singles from it. Dirty Harry will definitely be one of my favorites next year, but this year this is the only song by them in the Top 100
87
Robbie Williams
Tripping
Intensive Care
If this song sounds so good in the album, How good can it be live??? No one can deny that Robbie does amazing live performances.
86
Chemical Brothers Featuring Kele Okereke
Believe
Push The Button
One of those songs I always listen to on weekends before going out. Plus the video is so cool, that guys makes the story so believable.
85
Benjamin Diamond
There Is A Girl
Out Of Myself
So long after Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ , and 5 years after his last album, he’s back and he sounds so much better. He doesn’t sound as House as he used to. Love the track.
84
Ben Folds
Bastard
Songs for Silverman
Yes, Ben Folds, without the 5. When they changed their name I spent months wondering whether Ben Folds and Ben folds Five were the same thing. Stupid me. They have 3 songs in this chart
83
Hard- Fi
Hard To Beat
Stars Of C.C.T.V.
Another good single from ‘Stars Of C.C.T.V.’, which is claimed to be one of the best albums released in England this year.
82
We Are Scientists
The Great Escape
With Love And Squalor
Don’t know much about them. Since the first time I listened to this song, loved it. Hope i know more about them next year.
81
Maroon 5
Must Get Out
Songs About Jane
The song I like the most from that album. It was released as a single only for Europe.

dude Cash Machine. I just heard of Hard-Fi .. had no idea they had so many singles.
Good list so far, much better than a lot of the other song lists. Bet we'll have a lot of the same songs in our top 100s.

3/5 luisedo!!!!!!
And now that we’re talking about tracks in spanish, the first one comes @ #80
80
Orishas
El Kilo
El Kilo
I like say... 2 of their songs. This is definitely the best song the have made so far. The mixture of rhythms in it is more than interesting.
79
Arctic Monkeys
I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Their second single “When The Sun Goes Down” will be out on January 16th, and it already has a video which I’ll see after posting this (who knows, maybe I should post the video too). I’m sure it is as good as this song. We will be talking about them a lot in 2006.
78
Stereophonics
Devil
Language, Sex, Violence, Other?
Whatever song I’ve heard from them I’ve liked it. Does that make me a fan? Language, Sex, Violence, Other? is the album I like the most from them, but only 2 out of the four singles made it to the Top 100.
77
The Magic Numbers
Forever Lost
The Magic Numbers
So glad to have ran into this band while surfing the web. Nowadays it’s one of my favorites.
76
Moby
Lift Me Up
Hotel
Oh La La La La. Has anyone remixed this song???? So entertaining!!!!!
75
Royksopp
Only This Moment
The Understanding
Their videos are the coolest ones of the year (along with Beck’s). This song was actually shocking for me, but a good shocking. It sounds different than “Remind Me” or “Poor Leno”.
74
The White Stripes
Blue Orchid
Get Behind Me Satan
This song screams PARTY!!!! Plus, the video is so cool, and it’s directed by one of my favortie directors: Floria Sigismondi.
73
Shinedown
Save Me
I’m not really a fan of this band, but I have to recognise that they did a great job with this song. It grew in me so fast.
72
Aqualung
Brighter Than Sunshine
Aqualung
Happens all the time. First you hate the song, then it starts growing on you little by little and, by the end of the year, it makes its way to your Top 100.
71
The Arcade Fire
Wake Up
Funeral
Amazing song and one of the most creative albums I’ve heard this year. Hope their second is as good as this. I wouldn’t like to see them flop.
70
U2
Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own
How To Dismanttle an Atomic Bomb
To be very honest, this is the only song I like from the album. U2’s latest album was one of my biggest letdowns in 2004. This song had extra points because of that.
69
Ben Lee
Begin
Awake Is The New Sleep
This is a singles- only chart, but I still don’t know if this song was a single. They play it in one local radio station. I like it so much that i really don’t care. #69 spot is Ben Lee’s and that’s it.
68
Jack Johnson
Sitting Waiting Wishing
In Between Dremas
He is the very only thing I know about Hawaiian music.
67
Garbage
Bleed Like Me
Bleed Like Me
So much better than ‘Beautiful Garbage’. It’s such a pity that they have splitted up. I’m sure all of us will miss them a lot.
66
Coldplay
Speed Of Sound
X & Y
If I had made a Top 100 chart on 2003 and 2001, Coldplay would’ve had Top ten songs in both of them. Just not this time. Even if it has good songs, X & Y was disappointing. The video of this song is so good.
65
Fiona Apple
O’ Sailor
Extraordinary Machine
What a great comeback. Everything her fans did to see this album out (Free Fiona!!! Remember?) proves that they are unconditional, and few artists achieve that nowadays.
64
Green Day
Holiday
American Idiot
Like you didn’t know the name of the album. This is the only Green Day song in the chart, since the overplayed BOBD was considered 2004.
63
Coldplay
Talk
X & Y
The only band that finds giant robots in other planets.
62
Ben Folds
Jesusland
Songs For Silverman
Great song. It’s so unusual from him. Unlike other songs by Ben Folds (or Ben Folds Five), this song and its video are very direct. The criticism against religion and the way they make money out of our beliefs is clear. Is he the same guy who used to talk about Michael Jackson in ‘Rocking The Suburbs’? I don’t think so.
61
My Chemical Romance
The Ghost Of You
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Did you expect to see this song in a higher position??? Me too!!!! Facts proved me wrong. Even if it’s in the 61 spot, this is an amazing song, the album is one of the best of 2005 (2004 really) and the video is great, especially its ending.
OK guys, don’t forget to come back tomorrow to check out the third set. Includes my second guilty pleasure in the chart (it’s kinda pathetic, believe me) and 2 more tracks in spanish.

This set brings so many interesting stuff: Two songs in spanish, an amazing Icelandic singer, the catchiest song of the year, as promised, my second and last guilty pleasure that made it to the Top 100 and, starting this set, a cover of a Kate Bush’s classic:
60
The Futureheads
Hounds Of Love
The Futureheads
For some time I didn’t know this was a cover of an old Kate Bush’s song (Come on I’m not that old). The song sounds as if it was theirs, and I think exactly the same thing after having listened to the original one. You can barely tell they are the same song.
59
Hot Hot Heat
Middle Of Nowhere
Elevator
The best song I’ve heard from them. Now, two songs in spanish in spots 58 and 57.
58
Kevin Johansen
Desde Que Te Perdí
City Zen
The lyrics talk about how hard you want your ex to believe you are over her/ him (depends on the case, of course), even and especially if you are not over it yet. A song absolutely everyone can relate to.
57
Jorge Drexler
Todo Se Transforma
Eco
This is the guy who won an Oscar this year due to his amazing job at ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’ soundtrack. His songs are just too good to be sung by Antonio Banderas or Enrique Iglesias (as the organizers of The Academy Awards wanted). His album was released in 2004, but after he won the Oscar, this song got a lot of airplay.
56
Emiliana Torrini
Heartstopper
Fisherman’s Woman
She’s half Icelandic and half Italian (born in Iceland), but she lives in England (¿?). Some people compare her with Björk, I don’t understand why. She says music should be intimidating and beautiful, and this song is like that. Oh, and did you know she wrote Kylie Minogue’s ‘Slow’?
55
The Magic Numbers
Love Me Like You
The Magic Numbers
Is this song pop? Rock? Indie? What is it?
54
Funeral For a Friend
History
Hours
One of those videos you have to watch. Your history is mine
53
Morningwood
Nth Degree
Morningwood
M- O
M-O-R
M-O-R-N-I-N-G (Come on everybody to the Nth Degree)
Just Catchy. I’ve spent days singing it.
52
Kings Of Leon
The Bucket
Aha Shake Heartbreak
Why do they compare them to The Strokes?
51
Hard- Fi
Tied Up Too Tight
Stars Of C.C.T.V.
Third and last single of Hard- Fi in the chart. The single has two tracks: ‘Tied Up Too Tight’ and Hard- Fi’s cover of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’. Don’t even bother to get it. It’s the worst cover of 2005.
50
Doves
Snowden
Some Cities
This song is kinda depressing. Love those guitars by the middle of the song.
49
Nada Surf
Always Love
The Weight Is A Gift
There was (is) a thread that asked you about what albums you liked the most and the least, and which ones didn’t totally fill your expectations. I remember I wrote that I had expected more from Nada Surf. Now I take it back. The more times I listen to it, the more I like it.
48
The Futureheads
Decent Days And Nights
The Futureheads
Whoever directed this song’s video made a great job.
47
Athlete
Half Light
Tourist
They sound so much like Keane, Snow Patrol and, especially, The Thrills.
46
Fischerspooner
Never win
Odissey
So unexpected. I was waiting for another electroclash single like ‘Just Let Go’ or ‘Emerge’ and suddenly this. And it definitely worked for them.
45
Muse
Stockholm Syndrome
Absolution
Do they remind you to Radiohead too? All my friends who didn’t know this band thought they were Radiohead (by the way, Radiohead’s new album will be out in 2006!!! How cool is that). The best single they could choose to finish Absolution’s promotion.
44
Goldfrapp
Number 1
Supernature
This is my second and last guilty pleasure in the list. I never thought I was going to like a song by Goldfrapp, but I f***ing love it. Should I feel that guilty? Reminds me a lot to Air’s ‘Surfing On A Rocket’.
43
Straylight Run
Existentialism On Prom Night
Straylight Run
What a strange title for a song. Still, one of the biggest surprises of this year.
42
Franz Ferdinand
Do You Want To
You Could Have It So Much Better
Second album as good as the first one.
41
The Fray
Over My Head (Cable Car)
How to Save A Life
How can you not love this song??? It’s one of those songs you just love since the very first time you listen to it, and no matter how much you played it, it still sounds as good as the first time. Can’t imagine 2005 without this song.
Don't forget to check out songs from 40- 21 tomorrow tuesday: All my favorites who couldn't make it to the Top 20 plus the girl who scores the highest in the countdown. Who could it be?
|

Speed Of Sound seems to be on every year-end chart. They were top 20 on mine this year, or just about.

Two more sets and we're done with this!!!! Thanks everyone for the replies.
The most interesting things about this set are: Two modern jazz tracks and the girl who scored the highest at #22.
40
David Gray
Hospital Food
Life in Slow Motion
Been a fan of his since i heard Babylon in 2001. This is one of the most recent songs in the chart (released on November 29th), so you'll probably have to see it again in my chart for next year.
39
Korn
Twisted Transistor
See You On The Other Side
Korn gone black was one of the funniest things of 2005. LMFAO.
38
Idlewild
Love Steals Us From Loneliness
Warnings/ Promises
I didn't even want to listen to them in the first place. This song grew in me because it was everywhere.
37
LCD Soundsystem
Daft Punk Is Playing At My House
LCD Soundsystem
(Look at avatar) One of my favorite videos of the year (had too many favorite videos this year). Since Daft Punk let me down this year, Why not LCD Soundsystem???? Hope we hear about them for long.
36
Chemical Brothers Featuring Qtip
Galvanise
Push The Button
My finger is on the button, Push the button.
35
Michael Bublé
Home
It's Time
One of the sweetest songs of 2005. Whose is the second and last modern jazz song in the chart and the set? You'll see.
34
Royksopp Featuring Karen Dreijer
What Else Is There
The Understanding
33
Foo Fighters
Best Of You
In Your Honor
Whenever you go buy a Foo Fighters' album, you don't need to listen to it at all. You just know they will never let you down.
32
Beck
Girl
Guero
He's genious, he can never go wrong, not even with Sea Change in 2003. He's god, let's worship him. His Tshirts would sell like crazy.
31
New Order
Krafty
Waiting For The Sirens' Call
30
Oasis
The Importance Of Being Idle
Don't Believe The Truth
This is the way I like Oasis.
29
Jimmy Eat World
Work
Futures
OMG this song. Takes my breath away. I remember there were rumors that Liz Phair was going to guest appear in the video. If she in fact did, I never saw her. lol.
28
She Wants Revenge
Tear You Apart
She Wants Revenge
Don't know a thing about them, but I loved this song since the very first time I listened to it in a local station. Spot 28 totally deserved.
27
Depeche Mode
Precious
Playing The Angel
This album and the one of remixes made a great comeback for Depeche Mode. It was obvious they were coming back after the flop of Dave Gahan's solo career (OK maybe it wasn't a flop´, but it didn't go as well as we thought). This song is intimidating, very intimidating. Love it and hope Suffer well is the third single.
26
Jamie Cullum
High & Dry
Twentysomething (Special Edition)
Jamie Cullum singing that Radiohead chorus??!!! Priceless.
25
Kaiser Chiefs
I Predict A Riot
Employment
Remember the Kaisosaur???? (The dinosaur that appears in the 'I Predict A Riot' video). The song was a hit but the Kaisosaur died in August during a concert. Wish I had been there.
24
Yellowcard
Lights And Sounds
Lights And Sounds
I'll start taking them more seriously after this song.
23
The Killers
All These Things That I've Done
Hot Fuss
This song will be a classic, and we'll sing it for years and years to come. Unfortunately it was a bit overplayed and that's why it is #23.
22
Tracy Chapman
Change
Where You Live
While the rest of the forum struggles to choose between Mariah and Madonna, I already made my choice: Tracy. OK she can't do those yoga moves and she doesn't have 17 #1s in Billboard (and also you couldn't tell whether she was a boy or a girl in the 80s), but she's managed to be in the spotlight for 20 years all because of her music talent. Plus, she's the only one who has enough attitude to make her comeback with such a simple song as this and still impress everyone. Definitely my girl.
21
Nine Inch Nails
Only
With Teeth
Nine Inch Nails promoting Only with an animated video??? No f***ing way!!!!!
So we're done with the sets of 20. Tomorrow songs from 20-11: Experimental rock, unfortunately Ben Folds didn't make it to #1, a band from the 70s who presented a new album after 4 years and, most important of all THE ONE PERUVIAN BAND YOU MUST CHECK OUT. See you tomorrow
