Most of ATRL are going to pretend they were alive/old enough to remember Madonna/Mariah's peaks and just vote the artist they prefer.

Madonna.

Mariah's was bigger and lasted longer.

I didn't grow up in the 80s, so I have no memory of Madonna ever being successful. She was always just there. Mariah ruled the 90s.

As much as i love Madonna, Mariah has had the bigger peak. Madonna of course was big and is iconic and legend but the peak was Mariah really

Madonna has had more sucessful eras than Mariah though

I'm not old enough to remember Madonna's peak. Mariah's peak in the mid 90s is well known as one of the highest peaks of any artist EVER.

Madonna is universal, Mariah's impact must have been local, cause I dont think she is able sell out stadiums in most of Europe, while Madonna can do. And she is every generation's fav tbh, even my dad is a fan of hers.

Also if we are going solely by numbers, Hung Up is on Guinness Records Books as it is the only song to peak at #1 in 41 countries. Did Mariah ever do that?

This one is clearly Mariah. Much bigger peak. Too bad she couldn't outlast or at least match Madonna in terms of relevant chart success.

But.......

Mariah has more chart success. She has more #1's than Madonna, longer (including the longest, dahhling!) running #1's, and two "Song of the Decade" titles.

Madonna's first #1 - 1985
Madonna's last #1 - 2000
(15 year difference) and let's not forget that was 14 years ago.

Mariah's first #1 - 1990
Mariah's last #1 - 2008
(18 year difference) and of course that was only 6 years ago.
