A geriatrician has been hired to ensure that Mick Jagger and the other members of the Rolling Stones are in safe hands in the run-up to their pending gig in Norway, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
Concert organizer Frank Nes said he doubted, however, that doctor Paal Naalslund or the other medical team members would need to assist Charlie Watts, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards or Ron Wood who are all in "great shape," the Bergens Tidende newspaper reported.
Naalsund, head of the geriatric unit at a hospital in Bergen, was hired due to his skills as a physician, Nes added.
At 59, Wood is the youngest member of the veteran group that are touring with their "A Bigger Bang".
Naalslund told Bergens Tidende that the concert organizer contacted him after a hospital employee, who also works for the concert organizer, had mentioned his great interest in music.
The physician said he would be on standby as of Thursday when the band begins preparations for the sold-out concert on Friday at Bergen's Koengen arena.
However, Naalslund said he would be able to relax from his two 12-hour shifts as soon as Jagger and Co. hit the stage in the Norwegian west coast city.
"Then I will enjoy a beer and listen to the aging rockers," he said.
Naalslund said that when he was younger he listened to the Rolling Stones, just like many of his friends, but actually preferred David Bowie.
