The members of Disturbed are happy that their cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion" hit No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. But they're also a bit disappointed.
"To be honest with you, I expected it to be better," says frontman David Draiman. "I had hopes for it -- multi-format, not simply at the active [rock] format, especially with the rotation of that video [Todd] McFarlane did such a great job with."
As to whether the track's chart-topping success at Mainstream Rock will help achieve that crossover, Draiman is ambivalent. "There's always a chance," he allows. "But the longer the flame burns, the more fuel it burns, so the less intense it is. We'll see."
Disturbed and its label, Reprise, are mulling the next single from the platinum "Ten Thousand Fists" album, but Draiman says that no decisions have been made. The next Disturbed album, meanwhile, will have to wait until the group's Music As a Weapon tour -- which kicks off Nov. 15 in Providence, R.I. -- wraps up in late February.
Draiman says Disturbed's members -- particularly guitarist Dan Donegan -- are working on musical ideas, but that "as a band we haven't had the time to sit down and start making them into songs." He doesn't expect that to happen during the tour, either.
"Unfortunately we've never been very good at finding the state of mind to do that on the road, so it always ends up waiting -- no matter how we try," Draiman notes. "We'll bring the ProTools out with us on the road, set up the V-drum kit, the whole nine yard. [But] it never ends up happening. So we'll wait again; that's always worked out fine in the past."

I was thinking the exact same thing just a few days ago. I caught onto this song a bit late but it's very awesome, and I'm not much of a Disturbed fan [except for the Believe album.]
