Hello, and welcome to the first season of Movie Studio! In this game, you will be able to create your own movie studio where you will release several different movies. As the founder and CEO of this movie studio, it will be up to you to select each movie's actors, director, genre, title, and promotional TV slots.
This is how it will all work:
At the beginning of each round, every player will be given 1 million (virtual
) dollars, which you will spend on selecting 3 actors, 1 director, and at least 1 promotional TV slot (you will be allowed to select additional promo slots if you have extra dollars left over). Certain actors, directors, and promo slots will cost more money than others, and some of them will do a better job at attracting an audience for your movie than others.
It will be up to you to choose the name of your movie and the genre of the movie. The genres available are drama, animated, horror, comedy, and indie. Although drama, horror, animated, and comedy movies will typically earn you the most points, indie movies give you the chance to win awards which can cause you to earn even more points.
Throughout the game, some obstacles will randomly occur for some players. These obstacles will be detrimental to the amount of money your movie earns, and can include the following:
- A scandal involving your actor or director (A-list actors and directors will be more likely to be involved in scandals than B and C-list actors and directors)
- Your movie studio being sued
- Your movie getting bad reviews (Choosing A-list directors can prevent your movie from getting bad reviews)
- Your planned promotional TV slots being cancelled
At the end of each round, the box office ranking will be revealed, which will show how much money each movie earned. You can use this money for your future movies along with the $1 million that you will receive at the beginning of each round (Example: If your Round 1 movie earns $1.7 million at the box office than you will have $2.7 million in Round 2). The prices of actors, directors, and promo TV slots will increase as the game progresses.
At the end of the game, after each player has released all of their movies (there will be 5 rounds and each player will release 1 movie per round), whichever player has the most amount of money will be the winner. In the case of a tie, a sixth round will be played.
