Jill Jones is a singer, songwriter, and actress that got her start singing background vocals for Teena Marie on her albums as well touring with her as an opening act for Rick James and Prince. Most of you have seen her in Prince's "1999" video and the movie Purple Rain. She's also contributed vocals or songwriting to The Time, Vanity 6, Appollonia 6, Sheila E., The Bangles, Riyuichi Sakamoto, Lisa Lisa, Chic, and others.
Her self-titled debut album was released in 1987 on Paisley Park Records. Prince produced the entire album. It wasn't a big success, but among Prince fans, it's one of his best and most appreciated works.
The video for the lead single "Mia Bocca".
The album is no longer in print, but vinyls, CDs, and cassettes are on Amazon and Ebay. It's been uploaded to YouTube on the Peace Bisquit channel. http://www.youtube.com/peacebisquit
The second single "G Spot".
The album as a whole is great. My favorites are Mia Bocca, G Spot, Violet Blue, With You (a Prince cover), All Day All Night, and Baby You're A Trip.
Her b-side "77 Bleecker Street" is a must listen as well.
She was recording another album with Prince, but during the making of his film Grafitti Bridge, they fell out. Several recordings are available on the internet. She's also released a lot of albums independently over the years.
