Since I'm a homeschooled senior, the school part doesn't apply to me.
I work for a
very straight company (Home Depot), and the only gay people you usually see working in their stores are lesbians. Out of my store, I'm the only openly gay/bisexual male - ever. And there are no lesbians. It was kind of awkward at first, but my mother and stepfather work there, so I already knew many of the people. I started off being really quiet and conservative, as I usually develop a different personality for work. But within a couple of weeks, I started to act more like myself. They've always known that I'm openly gay, and I could tell that a couple of the more religious, older people did not like it at first.
After a couple of months there, I began to notice that literally everybody in the store seemed to like me and treated me so nice. I wondered why this was, because my personality isn't that much different from any other 18 year old's. I asked my mom what she thought, and she said that, without a doubt, it's because I'm gay and how I act. Since there aren't more than a handful of gay people in my area, and none of them work there, they haven't been exposed to many of them. And so when I act more flamboyant and "gay", they eat that **** up. When I dyed my hair Rihanna red a few months ago, everybody went CRAZY over it - in a good way. So ever since then, I've been playing it up.
It's so cute though, because even the extremely conservative, religious older men that work and shop there are really nice to me. But I don't know, I'm kind of classy about it because I don't go around saying, "OH MY GOD GUESS WHO I WANT TO ****?FGLJDF". I don't mix my sex life with work.
