The 2007 Year-End Crazy Ambition(Top 50 Singles, Numero Uno)
Wow. It's pretty amazing that, for once, I'm not the first one to post one of these things. I'm so not on the ball this year.
Anyway, hello, and welcome to the 2007 edition of the Year-End Crazy Ambition. This year's subtitle is "A New Hope". Why? Because it is. This year's Ambition will likely be short, in comparison to last year's, but it still has a lot of stuff to be interested in. As well as the old standbys like lists for music videos, albums, non-singles and the worst songs of the year, this year, two new lists have been added, for YouTube videos and video games. Of course, it all pales in comparison to the big kahuna, the large firecracker, the whole kit n' kaboodle, the Top 50 Singles of 2007 list, which always ends the Ambition every year, in case you didn't know that one, 'natch.
Here's a look at how it's going to go down, in order of when they will be posted:
1) Top 10 Favorite YouTube Videos of 2007(as soon as tonight, more likely tomorrow)
2) Top 10 Music Videos of 2007
3) Top 5 Video Games of 2007
4) Top 15 Albums of 2007
5) Top 40 Non-Singles of 2007
6) Top 10 Worst Songs of 2007
7) Top 50 Singles of 2007
I'll see you guys either tonight or later tomorrow with my ten favorite YouTube videos of the year, yes? YES?!
The 2007 Year-End Crazy Ambition: A New Hope (Top 10 YouTube)
Eh, to hell with it. I'll do it now.
My Top Ten Favorite YouTube Videos of 2007
[10] OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD
-- This may be the funniest bad reaction I've ever seen in a film. What makes it so funny is the build to it, where the guy says, "They're eating her! And then they're going to eat me!" That's funny enough, but it doesn't quite prepare you for the comedic gold that comes immediately afterward.
[9] Rax Sports Bar: Let Us Rack Your Balls
-- It's not really that funny to start(other than the ridiculous way the announcer guy says "RAX. SPORTS BAR."), but at the :17 second mark, it starts to get pretty funny. The first funny parts are the shots of the people screaming and hollering for the camera. At :19, in particular, is a funny individual, who points to the camera and goes, "WOOOO!" But that is nothing compared to the next gem, where three...um.."good looking" girls are shown at a pool table, saying "Let us rack your balls!" If you can't laugh at that...well, you're not awesome.
[8] The Greatest Reaction of All Time
-- "Nice! Ooh! What's wrong with that?" Oh, there's a lot wrong with "that". 2 Girls 1 Cup has become one of the biggest phenomenons in the history of the internet, and these poor four souls were subjected to it on their radio show after being told that "it's funny watching other people watch it". It's funny enough when the quote I mention happens, but the moment after that quote is when it turns into comedic gold.
[7] DALLAS IS GOING DOWN, GARY!
-- You think you know what's coming? Oh no, no you don't. A man by the name of Mark Miller is shown talking to...um, someone...prior to Super Bowl XXVII. He seems to be *really* pissed off about his Bills not getting enough respect. This vid doesn't get really funny until :24, when he starts gutteral screaming out of nowhere. "DALLAS IS GOING DOWN!" Well, they didn't, but it was a nice attempt to fire them up, Mark.
[6] The Best Death Scene Ever Conceived
-- This one has become absolutely legendary in certain circles. It's funny enough when the "ninja" throws his star into the chest of the villain, but his reaction has become nothing short of legendary. He drops his gun, goes into a disco stance, then looks down at the star in his chest incredously, then looks back at who were SUPPOSED to assume is the ninja, but is actually the director, holds his hands up, looks towards the director, and makes a face motion that looks like, "Was that one good enough, Bob?"
[5] LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!
-- Yeah, I know, this one has been covered by anyone and everyone, so there's really nothing new I can say, but it's still absolutely hilarious. Some of the most quotable lines: "SHE'S A HUMAN!", "All you people want is MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MOOOORE! LEAVE HER ALONE!", "You're lucky she even performed for you bastards!", and, of course, "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!" This has become one of the most popular YouTube videos of all time for a reason, because it is a ****ing HILARIOUS video. Why hasn't anyone made a music video out of this yet? Oh, wait, they have. How about a GOOD one?
[4] Powerthirst: 400 Babies!
-- This one snuck up on me. I didn't even see it coming. But Johnald did. And he posted these vids for the world to see. The first one is the one that sticks with me a little more, if only because it was the first one. REAL LIGHTNING! MENERGY! 400 BABIES! KENYANS! SNAKE EYESSSSSS!
[3] The Best Fight Scene Ever Conceived
-- Every ****ing part of this scene is laugh worthy. The facial expressions, the "fighting", the "dialogue", EVERYTHING. But, in particular, there is one scene that you have to see. Around the time they begin fighting, they had the audacitity and the awesomeness to put in THE BEST SLOW MOTION SEQUENCE IN THE HISTORY OF MOVIES at :22. If that does not make you laugh, I swear to god, YOU'RE INHUMAN! /Chris Crocker
[2] Factory Set!
-- Shop at Home videos tend to get funnier as the years go by, not just because of the way that Don West's looks fluctuated from time to time, but also because of the ridiculous prices some cards were going for. Remember a time when Shareef Abdur-Rahim rookie cards were making big money? Yeah, me neither. However, when it comes to this video, there is only one thing you need to see. Don West goes absolutely mental with this deal. "Are you ready, gang?" The first time he says "factory set!", it's funny. The second time, it's hilarious. The third to fifth times, you're like, "he's seriously saying this over and over again?" But from the sixth time on, it's absolutely hysterical. You don't know when it's going to end and, when it does, you feel all sad inside. Or, at least, I did. Don West is a god. Period.
[1] Hacksaw vs Warrior: This Ain't A Spike Lee Joint!
-- This is more of a personal choice than anything, because I find wrestling sometimes to be the most unintentionally hilarious form of entertainment in the world. This video pretty much sums that hilarity up in a two minute video. The "wrestling" itself is hilarious, but it's the commentary that puts this vid over the top for me. "I've never seen water in the midsection like that, EVER. EVER." The ending is probably my favorite part of the video, where the "commentator" screams out, "I AM EMBARASSED TO BE AFFILIATED!"...and I won't spoil the last line, but it is absolutely hysterical. I have rarely laughed as hard in my life as I did the first time I saw this video. Good, good times.
and you'll be like **** YOU and kick her in the face with your energy legs
babies you'll have so many babies 400 babies
and they'll be deported back to kenyaaa
You should've included Thunder exploding in Big Trouble in Little China. Easily the biggest WTF death scene in any movie ever.
Oh, and Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. You know, the scene where the shark eats 3 people and a waterbike in one gulp. I could've made something better than that. Were you the person on youtube that posted that list of funny death scenes?

Oh, I wish. I ****ing wish.
Oh god, the waterbike gulp. That's almost as good as "GARBAGE DAY!". Almost.
The music lists are coming shortly. Particularly, the top ten music videos list is coming rather soon. BE ON THE LOOKOUT~!
The 2007 Year-End Crazy Ambition(Top 10 Music Videos)
Yay, music related lists! It's a miracle!
...
Yeah, let's just get to it.
Top 10 Music Videos
Closest:
Incubus - Dig
-- I, honestly, prefer this one to the original winner because it actually features the band itself, though the transitions tend to get awkward from time to time. Regardless, both versions feature wonderfully simple animation.
Kanye West - Stronger
-- You better freaking believe that I love this video. I mean, come on, look at what inspired this video! The examination, the driving sequences, the transformation, all of it comes back to the greatest anime ever, Akira. Ego or not, it's still a cool vid.
Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver
-- This almost made the list. It may very well be #11. It's just so freaking humorous. It, basically, takes the medieval idea from Dio's original video, turns it completely on its ass, and completely entertains in the process.
Lily Allen - Alfie
-- At the same time cute and disturbing, this video has an...um, interesting puppet named Alfie, who swears, plays video games all day, and does drugs. Well, 2 out of three ain't bad. Anyway, Lily is ridiculously cute here, but, more importantly, it actually fits the song to a t, which is always a plus, in my eyes.
[10] Korn - Hold On
-- If not the funniest video of the entire year, it's certainly up there. "The Arrogant Champ" alone brings a smile to my face, but then they have to go to ridiculous lengths to make it clear that the balls are THE focal point. The end of the video is my favorite, as they head over to a new owner and, subsequently, the tradition continues. This is, BY FAR, the most ridiculous video that Korn has ever done, but that's what makes it so fantastic.
[9] The White Stripes - Icky Thump
-- The tradition of awesome White Stripes videos continues in the form of their quite rockin' opening track from the album of the same name. Shots of the duo performing? Sure, that's there, but that's NEVER the main thing when it comes to WS videos, and this is no exception, as Jack White finds himself being persuaded by a "dead looking lady" in Mexico. The sights are amazing, as you would expect, but this video also shows off the acting ability of one Jack White, who is 100% the star here.
[8] Foo Fighters - Long Road to Ruin
-- Let's face it: When it comes to funny music videos, few have been able to match the pure hilarity of the videos of the Foo Fighters. This one may come close to my all-time favorite funny vid of theirs in "Big Me". It's not enough that they had to go all out with the 70's clothing, but they HAD to throw in a sequence with Dave Grohl running away from a mob of girls and then making him CRY in front of them! Just...go right at my funny bone, why don't you?! And the ending is absolutely priceless. You have to see it for yourself, if you haven't already.
[7] Serj Tankian - Empty Walls
-- My favorite of the videos that I've seen from Elect the Dead. Granted, I haven't seen all of them, and some of them(especially "Saving Us") are pretty freaking good. But this one is just so well made. This video may seem cute at first, with the kids playing around, throwing stuff at one another, with Serj being the ringleader. The video has some moments that really put a smile on my face, like the misspelling of "Mission Accomplished", or the shot of the kids pulling down the teddy bear, ala the Saddam statue. However, by the end of the video, you really get to thinking. I won't spoil the ending, but it's a doozy, one that really hits hard.
[6] TV on the Radio - Province
-- Do I get this video? Uh, not really, no. I like to think it's about someone who sees how horrible war is, but with TV on the Radio, you never know. However, you cannot deny that it looks incredible while being so freaking weird. The cinematography alone puts this video on the list. It just looks beautiful.
[5] Justice - D.A.N.C.E
-- I have a feeling that I might be putting this video too *low*. There's no doubt that this video is innovative, groundbreaking, and just plain COOL, but the main reason why #5 may still be too low is because of how incredible it looks. This video is picture proof how far along CGI has come in the last couple of decades. It's also great how the shirts go along with one another the way they do. Seriously, I'm not telling you guys anything that you don't already know!
[4] Mute Math - Typical
-- Yes, Jack Johnson would be rolling over in his grave, if he had one, but, to be fairly honest, Mute Math took Jack's idea and perfected it here. This was the early front runner for best video of the year for yours truly, if that tells you anything about how freaking awesome this clip is. What is so amazing about this video is not just the fact that it's done like it's backwards, but the fact that they were able to pull off, basically, reversing the playing of the instruments and the li-synching so seamlessly. Seriously, it's incredible.
[3] Korn - Evolution
-- Another Korn video, and this one is pretty special. This clip isn't just funny, it's thought-provoking, and, AND, the CGI and graphics are absolutely stunning. I think that it's pretty safe to say that this is one of Korn's best videos. Really, there's not much else to say. It's just a really well made video.
[2] Queens of the Stone Age - 3's & 7's
-- No, this isn't so high because of the women, perverts. It's so high on this list because it just claws at my grindhouse tendencies. This video just SCREAMS grindhouse. It's so gloriously awful looking and, generally, bad acted. It's almost, in a way, like the vid for Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" in its campy feel...and hey, what do you know, that video was #2 last year! What a coincidence! Again, the second place video may very well be the most entertaining.
[1] Nine Inch Nails - Survivalism
-- When it comes to music videos, it's not that hard to hook me in. All you have to do is give me stunning visuals, entertainment and/or a very interesting message, and you've got me hooked. This clip has *all ****ing three*. The visuals are unlike anything that I've EVER seen in a music video before, the message is powerful and resonates with me very clearly(I mean, come on, anything having to do with "Big Brother" and privacy is very important to me), and it's damn entertaining to see how it all unfolds. This video has it all, and that's why it's #1, for it is the complete package when it comes to music videos.
And that's the end of that chapter. My list of the Top 5 video games is next, and that may see the light of day tonight as well. Might.
