by Thomas Gilmore
A massive week for both sales and airplay sees Kings of Leon outsell John Farnham by more than 20,000 copies to claim the #1 Album. Rihanna scores her first solo #1 Airplay track ever while Bruno Mars nabs his first #1 ARIA single.
TMN HOT 100 AIRPLAY CHART
You wouldn’t believe it, but Rihanna has scored her first solo TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart #1 single this week with Only Girl (In The World). She needed to get back to the top spot after getting a taste ten weeks ago, when Eminem’s Love The Way You Lie (in which she features) took the crown. She has been inside the Top 5 four times with solo tracks previously, but never topped it until now.
Rihanna’s jump to the top pushed Bruno Mars's Just The Way You Are down to #2 and Mike Posner's Cooler Than Me to #3. Kings of Leon's Radioactive slid to #4 while Pink's Raise Your Glass held fast at #5.
Another chart diva made a big impact this week as well. Katy Perry's third single Firework busted onto the Hot 100 with the highest debut of the week, entering at #20. This is the first time Perry has debuted inside the Top 20 since I Kissed A Girl back in June, 2008. In other debut news, Brooke Fraser’s Something In The Water* was the second highest addition, coming in at #56.
James Blunt made the most progress this week, climbing 28 rungs from #93 to #65. The Temper Trap’s Fader has also surged back up the chart after re-entering the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart last week.
ARIA TOP 50 SINGLES CHART
One week after Bruno Mars's Just The Way You Are hit #1 on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart, the song has now earned him his first ARIA #1 Single.
Rihanna's Only Girl held onto #2 while Nelly's Just A Dream moved up one spot this week to #3, above last week's #1, Pink, who saw Raise Your Glass fall to #4 in its second week on the ARIA Singles chart. Mike Posner's Cooler Than Me stuck at #5.
Both Zoe Badwi and Pitbull have darted into the Top 10. Badwi's Free Fallin' jumped from #18 to #9, while Pitbull's Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor) flew from #16 to #10 in their second week on the chart.
Taylor Swift scored the highest debut of the week, entering at #26 with her latest, Back To December. Katy Perry's Firework rolled in at #37, contrasting the Top 20 airplay debut she scored this week on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart.
ARIA TOP 50 ALBUMS CHART
Another #1 album for Kings Of Leon. Their fifth album Come Around Sundown sold a massive 26,463 copies last week to rocket to the top of the ARIA Albums chart. It cleared John Farnham's comeback album Jack at #2 by more than 20,000 (he sold 6069 units). Having said that, Jack would have taken #1 easily last week with almost double the sales of last week's #1 album by Bring Me The Horizon, which sank to #20 this week.
Robbie William's Greatest Hits jumped back to third place, selling 3611 units.
Bruno Mars also debuted this week with Doo-Wops & Hooligans entering at #7, above The Very Best Of Crowded House, which managed #11.
A few interesting movements appeared this week. Midway through their Australian tour, Metallica's self-titled album has re-entered at #35 with a staggering 110 weeks now under its belt. Adam Lambert and Paramore scored a few more sales with their appearances in the country, moving upto #6 and #22 respectively. Kings Of Leon's Only By The Night re-entered at #36 also. Source:
