NOTE taken from umichgrad07's singles thread:
NOTE: this is not the all-inclusive best-selling list - only the best sellers for artists signed under Universal Music Group. The all-inclusive (IFPI) list should be coming in a couple of weeks.
Eminem topped the UMG Bestselling Albums with The Marshall Mathers LP 2which sold 3.7 million copies in 2013, particularly impressive as it was only released in November. Slim Shady also claimed 15th spot in the singles list as his collaboration with Rihanna, “The Monster” sold 3.5 million in the year.
For the second year running Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan claimed #2 spot on the UMG album bestsellers with his Lov Rab Se selling 2.8 million units, all of which were physical. Once again massive success in his native India saw him outsell household names Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons and Lady Gaga who held 3rd, 4th and 5th position on the chart respectively.
The next few positions were again claimed by Universal Music’s men with Drake, Luke Bryan, Stromae, Robbie Williams and Jay-Z making up the top ten.
Several artists managed to feature on both charts, notably young kiwi sensation Lorde who’s debut album Pure Heroine sold 1.3 million giving her 14th spot in the album charts to go with the previously mentioned 6th spot in the singles charts.
