This is a thread for the tracks that almost-did-it - a place to recognize your favorite hits that went all the way to number one number two on Billboard's Hot 100. I expect no fewer than 35 posts mentioning "Bad Romance" and 22 unfavorable comments regarding Ke$ha/her debut single/Dr. Luke.
Let's get to it.
This is definitely the best song to ever peak at #2.
"I Love You Always Forever" is a 1996 SMASH hit for Welsh one-hit-wonder, Donna Lewis. It was held off from the top spot by something referred to as a "Macarena" (I've never heard of it, either), which is, from what I've been told, a song and associated dance that is very popular with middle-aged, stiff-dancing, white folks, and is frequently played during exercise hour at Sleepy Hills Assisted Living facility. Donna remained at the #2 position on the Hot 100 for nine weeks, was #1 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart for twelve weeks, and "I Love You Always Forever" went on to become one of the most played tracks of the 90s.
And it's really good, ya'll. It has a bunch of lyrics about dreams, and clouds, and mists, and breezes, and unicorn farts. And it's very romantic. Donna is very much wrapped up in everlasting love, so excuse her if she can't be bothered to avoid redundant language. She's always going to love you... forever.
This is the soundtrack to my secret moments shared in the heat of the afternoon with Erik.
