In a report published on Friday, the WHO made “strong recommendations” that all men who have sex with men should seriously consider taking antiretroviral medicine “as an additional method of preventing the HIV infection from spreading”, even if they haven’t got the virus themselves.

In the report, it says that homosexual men are 19 times more likely to have HIV than the rest of the population, and it is believed that encouraging gay men to take the antiretroviral medicine could decrease this significantly.

By that logic, anyone having sex should be taking this medication to prevent the spread of HIV. Singling out gay men just because they have a higher incidence doesn't really do much when others can still transmit it.

They are only 75% effective though, they break very easily if you use the wrong lubricants, it's happened to me MANY times

I'm not gay nor do I like men, but if I were, it wouldn't hurt any to take precautions.

By targeting one of the largest demographics of HIV carriers and transmitters, the disease is less likely to spread as a whole. Suggesting EVERYONE take this would be expensive and unfocused.
