According to a new article on billboard.com, Linkin Park have added even more bands to their awe-inspiring list of inspirations for the new album; this time of the progressive rock variety:
"The thing about Rick that I love is he's unpredictable," Shinoda says. "He'll listen to a song and throw out an idea that seems completely out of nowhere, but it makes a lot of sense and it makes the song better." Shinoda adds that Rubin has steered band members towards recordings by Pink Floyd, Elton John, King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer as reference points for different emotions and feels for the new songs. "The Moog (synthesizer) has been sitting in the studio since day one," Shinoda says with a laugh."
While the rest of the article dived into very familiar territory, the one bit of new information featured there suggests the band is going to head in a very new direction with their latest effort, currently set for release sometime in Spring 2007.

In a recent Blender article, Linkin Park sat down with the magazine and revealed some information regarding the direction of the album, as well as what we can grow to expect in regards to the band's stripped down and more 'authentic' feeling sound.
"It's more organic and raw," Bennington said, "Rick has brought more of a stripped down classic rock and hip hop kind of feel. We're using vintage guitars and drums carved out of wood and skin for a more tribal sound. It's definitely not nu metal."
In addition, Chester went on to provide information on the new album title, providing only a fill in the blank clue of T___ and T___, in which Blender guessed to be Trials and Tribulations although that is not the confirmed album title at this time.
"We're obsessive with secrecy around here," remarked Bennington, "our friends have to sign in and out, and we have a guard 24 hours a day -- it's not a welcoming environment."

In their recent issue with Kelly Clarkson on the cover, Blender has featured Linkin Park as #2 on their Top 27 things to love in 2007. According to the article, the new album is expected to drop in March of 2007 and Chester has been quoted as saying in the article that the new album is "worth the wait".

In a recent article in Kerrang! magazine, Chester Bennington and Phoenix Farrell spoke about the new record due for a Spring release. The duo noted, among other things, that the much rumored title 'Trials and Tribulations' may be no more than a thought, saying "at the moment each of us has their own idea, so we have about six different titles which will all probably change."
Whilst little new information was divulged, the two have claimed that the album is almost finished, as Chester remarks about playing a few tracks for friends: "They said 'This is totally different. You're taking this to another place'." Phoenix, too, warns people to approach the record with an open mind, exclaiming that the style is "a whole new animal" for Linkin Park. Excited yet? We are.
