Cassie to "start working" on her second album
Quote:
CHAPTER 53: DIAMOND LIFE - CASSIE ON SEEING HER FACE ON A SKATEBOARD
Sex symbol, fashion icon, singer, model, and all around class-A bad bitch Cassie makes waves with just about everything she dips her little pinky in. Transitioning from modeling and appearing in music videos to taking voice lessons and developing her own music career under the legendary Bad Boy imprint, it would seem that there’s very little this New England girl can’t accomplish.
Due to a chance meeting with Nick Tershay through LA’s Power 106 radio DJ Eric Dlux, Nick and Cassie developed a friendship based on mutual respect and admiration. This soon led to one of the most talked about collaborations of 2012—and there’s even more to come.
How did you first get to know Nick?
I actually met Nick through our mutual friend Eric Dlux, who is the DJ for Power in LA. I was up at Power doing interviews promoting whatever single I had out at the time and I had socks from a friend that were Diamond that I was wearing. And he was like, “Wait a minute. You know about Diamond?” I was like, “I don’t know, I’m just wearing someone else’s socks,” [laughs]. He was like, “You gotta meet my boy.” From then the relationship hit off, I met Nick, and from there we collaborated on our first t-shirt.
What do you think makes Diamond stand out amongst other brands?
I personally love Diamond for the fact that it’s so connected to you, but it’s still fashion. There is something different about it. I don’t know, I think there are a lot of brands out there in the same genre, but Nick just makes those same things with an essence. There’s a quality, and something classic that makes Diamond different. They’re just classic and original in thinking. Yeah, it’s hard to explain but when you see someone wearing Diamond, you’re like, “OK. I like that.” [Laughs]
Definitely. What’s your favorite Diamond piece?
Nick sends me stuff all the time but I love sweatpants; the quality of the sweatpants. I wear them in the studio, I wear them when I travel—I think they are actually men’s, but I wear them.
I think the ashtrays are pretty cool.
I mean my favorite, favorite thing not clothing related is probably seeing my face on a skateboard. That was crazy for me too.
What does next year look like for you?
I’m heading to the studio right now in Miami. But then I plan on getting back to LA to start working on my sophomore album. I just put out a mix tape this year in April, but y’know, I kinda just put my feelers back out there with everybody. So I got that out there, now I’m gonna work on the second album. And yeah, just seeing what other opportunities come to be but I’ve always had a relationship from the beginning with Nick. So that’s really cool for me. I think there’s like a whole other class of kids and genre apart from skateboarders; they are defined by something else. And I’m glad I can be part of that.
