Hello, little ATRLers, since the last thread I made where we discussed femphobia in this community went nice and smooth, I wanted to see if we could do it again.
This time we'll be discussing something that affects our community and it involves allies, queer baiting/pandering
Quote:
Pandering
Pandering is the act of expressing one's views in accordance with the likes of a group to which one is attempting to appeal.

This can be seen with many white male actors/singers, guys who will tiptoe around their sexuality or will say something like "I'm half-gay" in order to get coverage by queer media, Nick Jonas is a great example, he suddenly started to speaking about his support to the community, this has landed him probably more coverage by queer media than any up and coming queer singer; another example is how the media was praising Prince Williams for appearing on the cover of OUT, ANOTHER example that I want to point out is that there is this youtuber (SupDaily) who has countless videos of queer baiting but got mad at queer people when they called him out and ANOTHER example is the female artists that make cheeky bicurious songs or come out as bicurious only to deny it later on but that's another topic.
It's crazy how our own media only focuses on these "allies" and always try to make a headline out of something ridiculous: "Diplo said he is half-gay!!" "Nick Jonas said he had sex with a man" "James Franco is wearing lipstick!!!"
Allies are nice but we can speak for ourselves, we don't need them to hold our hands or to patronize us, we should also reflect that as a community we can't give standing ovations to cis straight people who show that they have some sort of common sense and respect for our lives.
We don't own our lives to them so to say something like "Oh, at least they mentioned us!", that's just a big no, don't accept crumbs.
TL;DR: Cis straight male celebrities are speaking over us and getting more media coverage for doing nothing.
