The Senate has voted against starting debate on the National Defense Authorization Bill, which would repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. (DEMOCRATS-56; REPUBLICANS-43) 60 votes were needed to begin debate.

Sad day & setback for those believers of full equality for all humans in America.

There were 56 votes to move forward with repeal, and 43 votes to block it. Therefore, OF COURSE, it's blocked?

Nothing about that makes any sense. That 60-vote ******** is specifically designed to halt all progress.

In the German Bundestag, 2/3rds of votes are needed for some decisions so there are similar systems in place in other countries

but those are decisions that alter the constitution of basic rights...which I don't think is the case here.
