I think with twitter and social networks taking over, stans want their artist to be outspoken and a little bitchy... PR teams have noticed that, that's why so many virtual feuds and media created stories are circulating nowadays, to give the impression this one or that one is a diva or crazy (it depends on the narrative that is created, of course).
When the star is a bit shy or doesn't want to play that game, many assume they don't have a personality. It's the louder, the better, it seems... Everything is overexaggerated these days, in the music business and when someone is "normal" it's not enough for the media machine and a part of the public.
At the end of the day, the only way to know these people would be to sit down and talk to them for a few hours or walk a mile in their shoes. Since it will never happen, we will NEVER have the moral authority to judge them, even though most still do it anyway and will continue to do so...
