After providing enough evidence to prove they suffered “emotional damage” over the 2009 death of Michael Jackson, a court in Orléans, France ruled in the favor of five Jackson fans in the grand total of $1.36 for the trauma they endured. The five were among 34 fans who sued Dr. Conrad Murray, who served two years of a four-year term for administering a lethal dose of anesthesia to the King of Pop, following Jackson’s death.
French lawyer Emmanuel Ludot, who represented the winning parties, said to the AFP news agency, “As far as I know, this is the first time in the world that the notion of emotional damage in connection with a pop star has been recognized.” He continued, saying, “They have been subjected to ridicule and I am delighted their suffering has been taken seriously by the law.”
