Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne come from too divergent sides of the spectrum. One was at the forefront of the late 90s bubblegum movement. While the other, arrived in the early 00s with deeper, darker music that seemed far more sentimantal. Yet somehow, they both fit under the "pop" umbrella. Lavigne was notoriously dubbed the "anti-Britney", as her music was thematically the opposite in composition to that of Spears, who made fun, lighthearted songs for the world to love.

Spears has showcased her strength in putting on high-energy shows, with the production on such a massive scale. She is a performer that builds up an ecstatic atmosphere every time she comes on stage. Avril is believed to be a really strong songwriter. She also occasionally produces her own material, and has proven to be quite an impressie vocalist too. Both artists have memorable hits in their respective discographies, despite that Spears seems to have a lot more moments.
