Over on the Digital Songs chart, Maroon 5's "Payphone" rings at No. 1, debuting with a whopping 493,000 downloads in its first week. The track, featuring Wiz Khalifa, notches the best-ever sales week for a digital song by a group, surpassing the 464,000 rung up by the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" when it debuted at No. 1 on April 18, 2009.
Last week's No. 1, Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" (featuring Kimbra), falls to No. 2 with 463,000 (down 15%) while Fun.'s "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae) drops a rung to No. 3 with 251,000 (down 25%).
Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" holds at No. 4 (235,000; down 8%), Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is steady at No. 5 (221,000; down 3%) and One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" slips 3-6 (196,000; down 27%).
Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" (featuring Sia) is a non-mover at No. 7 (170,000; down 9%), Nicki Minaj's "Starships" falls 6-8 (152,000; down 25%), the Wanted's "Glad You Came" is down one to No. 9 (148,000; down 18%) and Train's "Drive By" rises 12-10 (146,000; up 23%).
The chart's second-highest debut arrives at No. 11, where Linkin Park's "Burn It Down" debuts with 115,000. It's the first single from the band's forthcoming album "Living Things," due out June 26.
Data regarding overall market volume is delayed at the present and will be added to this story at the earliest possible time.

Massive sales. In the past an opening like this would have been a sure debut at #1

I'm shocked that Gotye fell below 500K, because the remix was top 10 most the week as well...

Gotye #1 again
Maroon might debut at #2 but it's likely they may end up at #3.

Justin 200+ for 4 weeks straight now
He will probably get a boost when the video premiers and another boost when he performs on The Voice finale
Numbers in general are massive
Maroon 5 should debut at #2!!

That's what I was thinking but fun. has more than 100pts over in AI and has streaming points in their side. But it can happen.

Unlike WAY/Bieber, I'm not expecting too much controversy here (other than, perhaps, the battle between WAY and "Payphone"). The sales gap is much slimmer than that battle, while Gotye, like WAY, has the airplay and streaming advantage.
Nice enough numbers for LP. Anyone remember how much "The Catalyst" sold in its first week?

I think Green recognizes that. But in most weeks, those sales would be huge enough to take #1. But the runner-up is so close in sales that the gap won't be enough for the biggest seller to take the spot on the Hot 100. It's rare to see two songs over 450k during a regular week.

With last week, this week and next week considered, that remix of STIUTK will probably close like half of that ground on We Are Young.
