Who's a legend & who's an icon?
I don't think ATRL knows what a legend stands for and what an icon stands for. People don't really think when they call someone, their favorite artist, a 'legend' or an 'icon'.
I think it is ridiculous considering someone who has been in the industry for like 5 years (if much) a 'legend' but I've seen that happen thousand of times and well, I must confess, I feel a little annoyed because well, I am 20, I've seen some specific artists solidifying theirselves as icons or legends to see someone completely new being called that without even deserving it.
With that, I leave you with a reasonable difference between both concepts, think of it, look at your fave and be real: Is your favorite artist a legend, an icon or none?
From http://www.differencebetween.info
Legend and icon are two key terms that are used for a person who is famous for his extraordinary characteristics or talent. Legend is generally associated with people who have sustained their fame or charm for a very long time. However, icon is generally used for a person who has gained a lot of fame especially in a particular field, and the person itself becomes a representation of the field, style, etc. in which he has proved his worth. Legend is generally associated with people who are no longer alive, whereas icon is used for living glorified persons. However, both can also be used interchangeably.
Legends are people who have extraordinary achievements associated with them. It may also be used to denote a very talented person. These people get renowned due to their characteristics and are often remembered even after their death. People remember the legends by sharing stories related to them when they were alive. The achievements of legends can be related to monetary or non-monetary issues.
In precise, it is used for a person who owes a lot of respect. Another important characteristic of a legend is that a legend is able to maintain his fame for a longer time.
Icon is also used to refer to a famous person who is very successful and admired. It is generally associated with a role-model. Icons represent the field, characteristic, career, anything which gained them the popularity.
Icons become a representative symbol or as worthy of adoration. Icons are generally known for their importance. Sometimes, legend is referred to as a graduated form of icon.

Don't be pressed. This is how ATRL works. Their faves=Legends even though they've only been in music industry less than 6 years

As for Nicki: she's an icon right now and she'll retire a legend.

Gwen.
Time in the music industry: 26 years (Famous for about 18 years)
Still an icon, and as a fan I can admit that.
Won't be considered a legend for a long time.
Unless you stan for MJ, Prince, Madonna, Whitney, Janet, or earlier, your fave is still an icon.

Kanye, Eminem, Nas & Outkast are all legends
I know people wouldn't suspect Outkast because they're not that popular but artistry definitely has something to do with being a legend, and Outkast has probably the single most diverse discography of all time. They're influences to most rappers too, & almost all of their albums are known as ground breaking classics.
It might seem too soon to dub these artists as legends but they're definitely future legends if not living legends
