Politician Mike Yenni sex scandal with teenage boy
Quote:
40-year-old Yenni and the teen, who was 17 at the time and whose name has not been released, were allegedly connected with each other by a mutual friend. The teen says he and Yenni, the former mayor of Kenner at the time, the city neighboring New Orleans, would talk on the phone and text one another regularly.
As Yenni and the teen’s relationship deepened, he says the politician would occasionally visit him at his job at a mall food court. Once, he says, they met in the mall bathroom where the teen says Yenni gave him a pair of designer underwear. Afterwards, they shared a kiss.
The texting continued, becoming more and more explicit as time progressed. In one of the texts, Yenni allegedly told the teen that he “wants him naked.” In another, he asked if he’s worn the underwear he gave him, then says he would like him to model it for him. And in a third, he said he wanted to perform a sex act on the teen that night.
While Yenni doesn’t appear to have much of a record when it comes to being for or against LGBTQ rights, he is a member of the political party that, in its most recently adopted platform, officially defines marriage as “between one man and one woman,” calls ****ography harmful “especially on children,” and wants to police which restrooms trans people use in an effort to protect women and children from sexual predators. So it’s ironic, to say that least, that he would send dirty texts to a teenage boy then make out with said teenage boy in a mall bathroom. But we digress.
The texts were provided by the teen to WWL-TV on the condition that they not be directly quoted. The station verified that they did, indeed, come from Yenni’s personal cell phone, which is not billed to taxpayers.
The teen, now 19 and in college, tells WWL-TV that over time the texts started to make him uneasy, particularly one that suggested they have a threesome with the mutual friend who initially connected them.
“He asked me to go with him to his house in Oxford (Mississippi),” the youth said. “Also, the way he would describe the sexual things he wanted to do to me. And he asked me to be a secretary or assistant in his office; that way I could be with him and not be questioned.”
In June, he says he finally broke the affair off with Yenni.
According to WWL-TV, under Louisiana law, the age of consent is 17, so any sexual activity between Yenni and teen would not be illegal; however, the sexts may violate a federal law that bars the use of any telecommunications device to engage in “obscene” conversation with anyone under the age of 18.

Alex's response:
“The summer after my high school graduation,” he writes, “I was working a minimum wage mall job when I was approached by a man who said, almost fatherly, as I was eating a cookie, ‘Caught you with your mouth full?'”
Talk about a come on!
Daigle calls the man “Kevin.” We suspect–emphasis on the word suspect–that it was likely Mike Yenni.
“Afterwards, an acquaintance told me Kevin had seen me at my graduation luncheon and wanted to get to know me,” Daigle continues. “He told me Kevin was ‘discreet,’ a casual gay term for men who are not out of the closet to family members or friends. Not only that, Kevin was married.”
Daigle goes on to say that he and “Kevin” began texting and then sexting one another.
“We talked about our lives and discussed the possibility of eventually meeting to sleep together,” he says. “Once, on the phone, after telling him he should come to the mall to chat before my shift, he said that he ‘couldn’t be seen in public with other guys.’ I was confused. He clarified: he was a politician with a wife and a young child.”
According to his Twitter profile, Yenni says he is “happily married with one daughter.”
“I had seen his name on election posters in the past,” Daigle continues, “and he already held a fairly high local position. He was easily recognizable as a high profile person to thousands of people around the city.”
Indeed, Yenni was the former mayor of Kenner, the city neighboring New Orleans, and campaigning for President of Jefferson Parish at the time.
Daigle then recounts an incident the happened inside the mall bathroom that sounds almost identical to the alleged underwear exchange involving Yenni reported by WWL-TV:
Dillard’s at the Lakeside Mall in Metairie.
“He texted me that he was at the mall’s Dillard’s, and that he saw some underwear he wanted me to wear for him,” he says. “I agreed to meet him in the employee bathroom, working through my general discomfort.”
He continues: “He passed by my counter and glanced at the back hallways of the food court. We met in the bathroom. He handed me the Dillard’s bag, which held three pairs of designer underwear, worth $75 in total. We kissed briefly.”
Daigle says he found the whole thing very “exciting.”
“I was seventeen at the time and flattered to think a married guy wanted to break vows just to be with me,” he writes.
The alleged relationship continued for about a month, and primarily involved sexting and, as Daigle puts it, “failed plans to meet and references to the underwear he’d bought me.” He says he grew frustrated with “Kevin’s” flakiness and “generally bland attitude about the gravity of the situation,” so he cut eventually off communication, blocking the old man’s number.
“Since then, he has remained active on the political scene, and I know thousands of people have voted for him under essentially false pretenses,” he writes. “Meanwhile, I know he’s been with many other boys and will continue to find more. Part of me wants to reveal his identity, but I simply don’t know what that would accomplish. I am still disgusted by his actions.”
Daigle says the whole thing has made him “wary of older men.”
“Young men are fetishized and taken advantage of, people feel the need to be secretive about their lifestyles, and, evidently, abuse can arise,” he writes. “I’ve learned my lesson, and, even if the situation is alluring, I’ll continue to steer clear of any older guys, and trust my instincts when they sense trouble.”
He now says he feels the need to “warn other young, gay men — particularly those in relatively conservative environments — to steer clear of older men, especially in clandestine, intimate situations.”
“These men abuse the immaturity and lack of experience of younger men and take advantage of the fact the younger person may be more prone to continue an inappropriate relationship despite serious discomfort.”

Yenni’s camp had remained tight-lipped about the whole thing until this afternoon, when his media consultant Greg Buisson finally released the following very brief, very vague statement:
Mike does not believe there’s any reason he should be contacted [by the FBI] because he maintains that he has not violated any laws personally or professional. And that’s his belief at this point.

The man is married with a kid - with a possible anti-gay stance to boot - and sought out a sexual relationship with a seventeen year old, but still the teenager is derided for being an "attention seeker"....
Never change, ATRL.

Did you not read the article? 17 is the legal age of consent in the state they live in so sex between them isn't illegal. The sexting is what might get him in trouble.

That's so weird. Like, having sex with a 17 y/o is OK but sexting them isn't?

I just checked, and it's true.
Like the Age of consent for sex is 16 in Washington state (my state),
but "Communication with a minor (under 18) for immoral purposes in electronic format" is illegal.

I was thinking the same thing. Like in my state the age of consent is 16, so someone over the age of 18 can legally have sex with a 16 year old but can't sext them? Kind of backwards.

Legal to have sex with a 17 year old, but illegal to sext with someone under 18? Um... what?
Anyway honestly, they're both in the wrong. Yenni shouldn't have done what he did, he's married and has a child. At least break it off first. The teen also is in the wrong, honey you're 17. You're not dumb, and you're mature enough. The lies he's telling about feeling uncomfortable and only breaking up the affair 2 years later. Like hunty please, we're not dumb. Seems to me whatever the teen was getting in trade was slowly decreasing. But yeah, that teen has some nerves.
