I feel like she became super pretentious ever since the release of BEYONCE.
I was watching a video of her during the Sasha Fierce era (
x) and it surprised me how likeable she came across as - it's a shame because she strikes me as thinking she is superior to everybody else now.
I also feel like her political statements are not genuine and she is using them for popularity (just my opinion).
Not that it's her fault, but the mindless worshipping from the media and the hostility from her fanbase doesn't help either.
Although, I found that the cloak and dagger release of Formation oozed pretentiousness for me -- the way it was unlisted on YouTube and harder to find just struck me as she was baiting her fans to think she is too good for a regular release and she "doesn't need" to release the conventional way -- you're releasing a song that is meant to promote equality yet you want to hide it from the world? Why??? It just made the whole song/video feel like a marketing trick (to even further solidify the status she has of being ''too good for hits'', radio and promotion & that she is better than her peers) rather than what, I guess, it was
supposed to be about. If she was genuine about her message, why would she take such a secretive approach to releasing it?
