While most of us squeam and squirm at the thought of going a day without a shower — two if we’re not going anywhere or seeing anyone but the pizza delivery guy — this Iranian man hasn’t taken a bath in 60 years.
Amou Haji, 80, hasn’t bathed in 60 years. After a series of setbacks, he came to believe that “cleanliness brings him sickness” and chose live a life of isolation in the Southern Iranian province of Fars, according to the Tehran Times. His favorite food is rotten dead porcupine, and he smokes a pipe filled with animal feces instead of tobacco.
Haji may live unconventionally, but it’s his lack of belongings and attachments that make him happy. This man just goes to show that while our First World comforts are convenient, they’re certainly not necessary.
