Papal Conclave - Voting Round 1: No new Pope yet
About two weeks ago Pope Benedict XVI stepped down, forcing the Catholic church to choose a new leader.
Right now 115 Cardinals are locked in the Sistine Chapel, until they have successfully elected a new Pope. Today the cardinals voted one time and starting tomorrow they will vote four times a day, two times in the morning and two times in the afternoon. This will continue until one man has 66% of all the votes and is thus elected Pope. Last time it only took one day to elect a new Pope, but if they can't come to an agreement then it might take them days, weeks, months, or possibly years, however unlikely it may seem.
Two of the favourite cardinals to become Pope are the Italian Angelo Scola from Milan who is known as a reformist and the Brazilian Odilo Scherer.
In this thread you'll all be able to follow the latest news in relation the the Papal election and you'll be able to discuss the hopes and fears you have, the cardinal you do or don't want to become Pope, etc.
Updates:
Tuesday 12 March the cardinals started voting in the evening and around 18:45 GMT black smoke rose from the chimney, meaning they did not yet elect a new Pope. This means they will start a new round of voting tomorrow.
